The most important thing for a ninja is strategy and anybody can succeed with enough of that alone even if you're extremely average like Shadow boy. All you need is good teamwork and friends for the most part. If you think about it a little beginner ninja can take out Kakashi if he used enough strategy like poison taking somebody he loves as a hostage etc.

Lee and Gai are extreme cases. It can be argued they are actually very talented in taijustu but not in ninjutsu. I dont think any character could have gotten to that point against nagato. Possibly only one comes close is Kabuto with Sage Mode as that would fulfill the possibility of tracking down Nagato. However everyone would be dead anyways(not that kabuto would care)

Ultimately if you didnt have blood line you were sidelined towards the end. Even characters like Might Gai and Killer Bee get sidelined.

Pretty much all the characters in this series have a weakness even if that includes their friends and in my opinion a healthy Orochimaru would be one of the toughest/scariest characters to deal with just because of how cunning he and and the lengths he's willing to go to bring you down which is enough alone but then you take into account he's actually pretty strong and his huge diversity of ninjutsu. You would literally never feel safe.

Suddenly the monsters were no longer natural disasters, sealed in a human as a war asset/to stop it being a problem. but suddenly they become so friendly they just ask/demand more mana and now they can hit harder/cast larger spells, plus all the other convenient bonuses it started to give.

You see him go evil rape mode a number of times early in the series. Without it, they'd have died in the first arc. The kids introduced as a brat that can't perform some common spells, but gets his hands on 'secret spell that everyone knows, but doesn't use because it often shoots yourself in the foot, but for MC that drawback is negligible because evil sealed in him'.

The few things he 'worked for' happened over a time skip. He got better with age and experience, but his tactics still relied on the same shit.

Why doesn't everyone abuse shadow clones when not on deployment? It would halve training times. He also just happens to have a great affinity for sageshit, something we'd not enough enough of before it was introduced as a crude all round power up he mastered in mere days.
