No. They removed a lot of character-related stuff and races are also shorter and worse choreographed (although they look infinitely nicer, at least compared to the 1st stage).

It's not bad if you just wanna get the first stage over and done with, or if the old-ass animation of the first stage is a legitimate hang-up for you.

The non-eurobeat soundtrack isn't terrible, either, particularly in the first movie.

I don't know what that anon was saying about "worse choreographed races", though, since the race against Keisuke in Legend 1 looks infinitely better in all departments compared to First Stage's version.
