The biggest issue I have with this series is that the best characters (Kuromaru, Karin, Santa) are often overshadowed by the worst characters (Eva, Touta, Kirie) or even flat out ignored. Negima did a much better job fleshing out its characters without an extensive focus on one for too long a time.

It's somewhat ironic that in a smaller scale series with fewer characters that proper development is either slow or nonexistent with the majority of the cast.

Albireo mentioned it before, but her attraction to Nagi was most likely because he and Touta are pretty similar personality wise. Negi on the other hand was completely different from his father, so her feelings for him are likely much more genuine in comparison.

I thought it was weird that Sayoko had a magic circle similar to Ialda, and that the Negimaker had this whole Necro aura thing going on which really seemed out of place at the time.
There's some connection here, and the Resonance may not actually be an ability unique to Ialda, or it just manifests for her specifically as Infinite Empathy.
Already in Negima, Ken was great at building mystique and leaving bits of dialogue that seem very strange in hindsight. Though even now I can never tell whether this is intentional or complete coincidence.

Regardless of whether she gets defeated here or not, i think it's becoming increasingly more clear that Ialda is not the big bad of the story.

Glad to see my waifu back. She was single-handedly the best thing about Negima for me. Shame it probably won't last. I doubt the actual person, wherever she came from, would still be wearing her uniform unless she came straight from the earlier Phantasmagoria segment.
Never quite understood where the aunt thing came from. To me it always seemed more likely she was made by Ialda, as Rakan made it quite clear she was the only one in the royal family to ever have had the White of Mars. Where else would she get it if not from the source?
She's also the only one to have the weird Twilight Princess title and in the flashback set 20 years before Negima it's mentioned she was already a 100 years old then.
Not to mention when Asuna recalls the Mage of the Beginning during her capture, the mage talks about how it's time for Asuna to fulfill her "intended purpose" which is quite a weird phrasing and it seemed to me that she was simply made for the sake of the Cosmo Entelecheia ritual.
Also note how throughout the entire story Negi is several times made out to be a royal descendant. From Arika of course and Albiero flat out mentions he is Amateru's descendant.
Rakan loosely mentions how Asuna was a special child "born" into the royal family, but no specific details are ever mentioned for her.

Okay so I've been out of the loop with this series for a while now, but what is with the Negi hate here?

From what I remember Negi was mostly agreed to be an excellent protag since he really stood apart from your typical shounen MC at the time. He had a lot of hesitation, chose a different path than most MCs would, and was developed a great deal over his story.

While Touta is pretty textbook shounen MC wise in comparison, but I was expecting him to get development to make that not the case.

At this point, almost all UQH reader probably have read Negima already, since even if they read UQH first, the curiosity urged them to read the prequel. But most fan has moved on and accepted that the stage now belong to Touta, not Negi. Only some diehard Negifags persist on keeping him at the main character and therefore shit on the new series at every chance they get. That's why people retaliate.
