I just finished all 6k of the cards in the 6k deck and want to move onto the 10k. Is there any way to combine them or do I have to individually parse each missing card and add them manually to the deck I'm using?

They should use the same ordering, so just export the 10k to txt, get rid of the first 6k and import the rest back to your 6k deck.

I've been too busy to do that, so I was gonna wait until I start my job in Sapporo in December since I'll be in a kanji filled environment.

It's been asked before (by myself and others), yes it's possible and easy to do, if you take a look at the archives you should be able to find the posts.

From what I remember, I basically added core10k to my anki, by default it's already cut in 2 parts, the core6k part and the 4k left. In your anki collection you can easily cut the said 4k and paste them into your core6k deck. Only thing you need be careful about are the fields, they need to all match perfectly.

Now if you want my opinion : I regret having added core10k, it's just slowed me down. I still plan on finishing it anyway (to forge a complete opinion on the experience, to learn from my error and because I like to finish what I start) but I wouldn't recommend anyone to do so. READ and mine.

Again: Get any part of the word wrong. Forgot it completely, got the meaning or pronunciation wrong.
Hard: Took 15+ seconds to get. Or was strongly tossing up between multiple words in my head and it was really a game of multiple choice that ended in the correct guess.
Good: Regular answer.
Easy: Shouldn't have any trouble remembering it in the future.

You don't really want to mash the hard button on everything. It's nice in the short term but it tanks the card's ease which means it'll never disappear and you'll be doing 10,000 reviews a day.

TK only talks about verbs which means the guy seeking help has probably been there already. In his question he specifically mentions his doubt is about i-adjectives.
People sperging out like >>149474338 or that passive aggressive retard who linked tae kim (which doesn't even address his doubt btw) are just terrible.

They are unworthy of attention if they're covered in well known sources. In this case, anyone who has thoroughly read TK will know about putting verbs in the past tense and sticking a り on the end to make compound sentences.

It should make perfect sense that it can also be used with adjectives in past tense, and if he's unsure he can use the DoJG, also in the OP.

>>149479297
I studied radicals and I didn't really get why it was supposed to be important. You don't need to know the radicals' names, and the meanings rarely matter as so many kanji seems to have quite random radicals.
If it was about the shapes, then I don't know. You learn the shapes just by learning kanji.
>>
>>149479869
I have thought of going through RTK or KKLC and compiling 200 or so of their radicals into a list, but I guess I'm past the stage where it would be worth it

I think a lot of the Kanji make sense when you know the meaning of the radicals, even if they didn't I think knowing the radicals would still help with recognition because it helps you break down the complicated Kanji into digestible pieces.

As for learning the shapes of the radicals just by learning the kanji, maybe I'm just stupid or something, but when I tried this my mind would just go blank looking at any Kanji made up of more than 4 or 5 radicals and I would have to really strain to focus on analyzing it. What's the point of doing it the hard way if you can just study the radicals on their own as well?

alright, I have kana down pretty much, and now I want to go on and learn vocab, grammar, and of course kanji. I plan on learning kanji just by vocab, and also studying radicals. I am also kind of confused on how to study grammar. So, my two questions are, do I need to grind through kanji radicals first or can I learn radicals alongside kanji and vocab?
and also how should I go about studying grammar alongside vocabulary, should I just spend like 30 minutes reading kim's grammar guide and then do my anki reps or something like that?
>>
>>149480703
Read and write memos from the book. I don't know any better way to learn grammar than writing up example sentences.
>>
>>149480703
radicals are optional, not really needed
always begin your day by doing your reps before anything else (at 20 new cards a day/unlimited reviews), afterwards do whatever. it is recommended that you don't take longer for tae kim than a month, just read through it and don't worry too much about it sticking you will be back looking up stuff from it as you start reading anyways

So you're saying in a grammar exercise only the grammar is the hard part? (By this I mean that you can see harder to comprehend texts on N1 when the exercise is just that comprehension alone.)

If you are having hard time with a kanji, write it few times. Don't just push "again" all the time either. Just accept it as hard or something and try again later. Sometimes it is better to move forward even when you don't get something.

It's actually kind of funny how many times this has been asked. Might be worth suggesting a one of the previous write-ups or image guide as per >>149482932 be added to the Anki Startup Guide as a link or something, or added to the Guide/Resource guide as a reference link to a pastebin or some such.
That or swapping out the current Core6K deck suggestion with a version of the 10k deck with the same styling so people can continue to go beyond 6k words if they want to, or use suspend the remaining words and only unsuspend when they come across them while reading; using as a type of mining deck.

There really isn't any downsides of replacing the current 6k recommended deck with the 10k version. Could even provide links to one will full media, one with only audio and one without media at all.

Hi anons. I'm a newb web developer, and am looking for a project for my portfolio and mostly to broaden my skillset. Do anons have any suggestions? I'm thinking of enhancing the DJT/bunpou page since no one seems to maintain it (iirc), but it's full of copyright content that I'm afraid I cannot publicized it outside of this community. I'm not thinking of developing of JMdict-based kanji/dictionary since there's already a lot of it, and more like tools that aids Japanese study. If all we need is anki (based on the general opinion of this board), then it's better if I look for something else. Thanks for reading.

Make a side that you can paste Japanese text into and read the stuff from there.

It should keep track of all the individual kanji and rate a reading material with difficulty based on JLPT or Jyouyou Kanji levels.

Plus, you could have it generate kanji grids for all the texts a user has read.
That way people can brag about their reading dick size using graphs instead of the usual anki stuff.

>with a version of the 10k deck with the same styling so people can continue to go beyond 6k words if they want to, or use suspend the remaining words and only unsuspend when they come across them while reading; using as a type of mining deck.
After a few thousand words any anon should have a pretty good idea of what they want to do with their vocab study. Having all 10k there at from the start makes it easier for the anons who would like to continue on in the same fashion for another 4k-ish, which is something that has been asked about on many occasions now.
One simple solution to an otherwise technical problem that isn't really covered in the Anki user manual, unlike card suspension and the like. Don't you think?

That's roughly 1 month of Genki I/II vocab. My new card count is zero, and I add all new cards in a Genki lesson all at once, which is usually around 60 - 100 cards, and approximately every third day. That most useful feature of that addon is the way it separates new cards from learning cards.

So the second line means "I have to accept the current me" but I don't get what the third one means, "If I don't, I wouldn't even have to think about my surroundings" doesn't make sense and is probably very wrong. Help

That's not a translation, more of an attempt to put how it feels into English. For whatever reasons that quote feels like someone who has found themselves in a situation they are uncertain about but trying to reassure that they have to remain certain or at least positive and accepting of the situation so they don't get lost in uncertainty and unable to proceed with a clear mind about themselves.

I think that I'm going to abandon my vocabulary deck until I'm done with my kanji deck. I'm spending way too much fucking time in anki lately. If I switched priorities and made reading the thing that I must do every day and anki the thing that I do if I have some time and energy left over, I'd probably be gearing up to take the N1.

I'll have a few thousand reviews to do by mid December (around 7k cards into the deck), but I can just reposition those.

Yes. Also the longer you stay away from Japanese over a period of time, the longer it takes to get back into it the rhythm/mindset you had before. That's why if you do a lot of reading over an extended period of time it kind of feels like you have managed to increase your proficiency in a noticeable manner. That may be just confidence and getting used to the style of the writer but it's still feel good momentum.

When you quoted that page I thought you were going to ask about まったく光のない.

A while ago I remember a Japanese professor explaining it as sort of an order of importance the Japanese naturally place on certain things and the topic tends to be something that is put out more in front for emphasis. It has to do with how clauses and subclauses are formed in the mind of the Japanese, apparently.
A simple answer would be that the third sentence doesn't fit the natural flow of elements in a conversation as much as the above two. A lot still boils down to the surrounding context.

One thing to note is that the mnemonics often reference what the author calls graphemes - kanji components that are not necessarily part of the radical list. I don't think it's possible to type those, so you'd need some way to insert images into the mnemonics field.

>>149499498
The DOJG scan contains less data. The person who took the scan knew that they could use a two-tone scan because DOJG contains no true gray anywhere. Two-tone images are simpler to compress, because they contain 1/8th the information per pixel that grayscale images do.

However, in order to combat the fact that two-tone images can't store anti-aliasing, the scanner had to scan at a higher-than-normal resolution, in order to make the text not look like ass. This takes away some of the efficiency gains between the two.

KKLC contains gray tones. This means that two-tone scanning can't be used, because it would either make the gray areas unreadable or require lots of dithering, which ruins compression. However, the KKLC scan is compressed with jpeg, which can throw away other information to get a reduction in size. Judging by the compression artifacts visible in >>149499055 and the stroke density visible in >>149499167
, compressing the scan significantly further might make a character somewhere in the middle of the book harder to read, which is bad.

He's saying that KKLC is pretentious bullshit for fedoralords, check out the Anki deck he linked for some examples of normal, unpretentious English:

Well I guess if it works it works. I don't really have an opinion or preferences either way when it comes to different sources for mnemonics. I do however think it's rather silly to take some form of personal offence towards them, responding with a bleating kneejerk sounds of a nimrod. The whole Fedora meme screams insecurity from the people who think it is some sort of clever way to shut down conversation.

Anyway, I'm running this Kondansha Kanji Learner's Course book through ABBYY FineReader to see if it will be good enough to mostly copy/paste the mnemonic entries with minor editing. Could turn a process of dozens of manhours into dramatically less.

And now, let's take a look at the wonderful mnemonics and image KKLC creates to memorise the very same kanji, as opposed to the vivid story provided by that deck based on Heisig's primitives.

Everything after the first sentence is not part of the mnemonic, it's just there to help you differentiate it from similar looking kanji. The mnemonic itself is six fucking words. That's literally as far as it gets from whatever you mean by "fedora" (if you mean anything at all): simpler and more concise than the toilet humor mnemonics from koohii.
>>
>>149501539
All you're demonstrating is that if you're an imbecile who prefers nedlessly elaborate mnemonics containing potentially misleading extraneous elements for such extremely simple and straightforward Kanji like BLOW = MOUTH + LACK (of air), you might prefer to stay away from KKLC.

If you want mnemonics to be as closely based on the concrete form of the characters themselves as well as the meaning of previously learned Kanji, then give KKLC a try.

In any case, even if you dislike KKLC's mnemonics, you'd be well advised to use its keywords and order anyway.

Actually, I'm not a braindead retard who needs mnemonics to memorize the kanji at all and have focused solely on vocab since the beginning. I did glance through KKLC, RTK, KD and WK before dropping individual kanji study altogether, and came to the conclusion that KKLC is a complete waste of fucking time compared to the rest, with the obvious focus on actually writing the kanji to differentiate similar kanji.

Bottom line is, if you're the special kind of retard that needs kanji study and mnemonics at all, then why in the holy fuck would you ever use KKLC for kanji > keyword of all things? Hilariously unproductive when there are objectively superior alternatives out there for this purpose.

Shifting the goalposts. We're discussing which Kanji study resource is the best, GIVEN THAT ONE WANTS TO USE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Whether you're personally satisfied with the rate at which you decide to not press 'again' during your Anki sessions of unspecified length is clearly beside the point.

>with the obvious focus on actually writing the kanji to differentiate similar kanji
Any proper Kanji study guide will include stroke order information for those who want it. Some of the "braindead retards" who use that information will do so because it helps them differentiate similar Kanji (or they just want to learn to write), for others the mnemonics will suffice.

So what, exactly, are you sperging out about?

That was never the case. The only thing that was stated was that KKLC is a piece of shit and that any and all alternatives are preferable to those who do not wish to waste their time completely on kanji > keyword. Other people latching on with their worthless opinions is irrelevant. They're obviously just seeking confirmation bias to feel better about the fact that they made the poor decision of using KKLC.

>Whether you're personally satisfied with the rate at which you decide to not press 'again' during your Anki sessions of unspecified length is clearly beside the point.
See:
>All you're demonstrating is that if you're an imbecile who prefers nedlessly elaborate mnemonics
No mnemonics, no individual kanji study, strict answers, still 90%+ retention on 50-ish new cards a day, clearly showing that your assumptions are wrong.

All you did was show show a screencap of your "true retention" (lol), which is simply the rate at which you press a button other than 'again' on your reviews cards (not even all cards). I don't think I need to point out how loudly the fact that you've decide to "prove" something with an addon-modified value rather than simply showing your deck stats (including time spent per day and success rate during the learning phase), nevermind any actual facility with the language itself, speaks to your insecurities.

>I should ask you the same thing. You consistenly write essays on the matter, seemingly butting in at random intervals. You're so easily identifiable that you should just get a tripcode so that I can block you already.

I don't think you know how that addon works, bud. Overall retention, including new cards, is significantly higher than that number, as "true retention" only counts the cards that's in your Anki rotation already, i.e, keeping track of what matters for an SRS. I find it quite ironic that you would bring up insecurities in a post this full of misconceptions and projection, attempting to trivialize the fact that someone who has not wasted hundreds of hours on ridiculous kanji > keyword study has (presumably) significantly better retention that you.

When I was a kid and didn't know English, I would play Mario Kart 64 and sometimes go to the "Data" menu, where all tracks were listed.
I would go through all of them, looking for the ones that had "that thunder sound" available.

I really liked pressing the button and hearing the thunder sound. But I could only do that once per stage and not every stage had it.

So I would just visit the Data menu from time to time, in hope I would come across more "thunder credits" next time.

Turns out I was erasing my best times/ghosts in Time Trial. And I used to get pretty mad at my ghosts disappearing for no apparent reason.
