Why do you love anime?
as in what specific things about anime makes you love anime.
>>
It helps me escape from reality.

>>149379215
Cute girls.
>>
>>149379248
In what way? do you connect with the characters like real people or does it just feel good to watch it?
>>
I like animation in general and I think Japan's the best
>>
Fanservice. I like cute girls doing lewd things.
>>
>>149379271
How are you supposed to watch a show with people in it and not connect with the characters? If you do not then it's just like watching cardboard boxes sit in a warehouse.
>>
>>149379275
I can understand liking cute girls doing lewd thing, we're only humans. But if you just want to raise your bone, why don't you watch hentai? Or is there something special about anime that turns you on?
>>
>>149379318
hmm yeah that is true.

I'd like to include manga and light novels to the list, but it's about escapism. Anime offers a relatively wide variety of different stories and themes that are easy to digest and watch.
Cute 2D girls are also cute and nice to watch.
>>
>>149379327
anime has aspects of normal shows that makes them more varied and entertaining compared to raw porn. Sometimes they are even good enough to fool you into taking them seriously, which is much better and pure form of perversion than watching porn and knowing it is stupid.

I like openings and music a lot as well, and sometimes the animation and stuff is pretty to look at.
>>
I was forced by my father to watch anime everyday for 3 hours straight.
助けって
>>
american animation is not making enough action stuff so I go to anime

basically it, haikyu is my shit

What kind of loser with horrible taste actually loves anime?
>>
>>149379441
In the end we all die, so it doesn't really matter what we spend our time on.
>>
>>149379441
Woaa, your image have convenced me to stop watching anime.
>>
Keeping up with shows makes me feel like I'm doing something honestly. Although I also enjoy cute girls and lewd things as well. The sense of community is pretty nice too
>>
>>149379497
>Makes me feel like I'm doing something

I understand what you mean anon, having some kind of meaning could prevent you from becoming an hero. I guess having something that keeps you going is better then falling head first into your grave. Or is it?

this to be very honest family. The escapism is a big part. I also enjoy the different emotions in anime. Books, manga, movies, tv shows can bring some emotion sure. But I never get so deeply invested like with anime. Anger, sadness, joy for a nice ending on the characters. Thats what really stands out. Death Parade episode 9 is a good example, it feels authentic even in a supernatural setting. Has the anger, the disgust of " means for an end", the powerlessness of revenge itself. Anime is just incredible.

Yeah Death parade is amazing, got a few drops out of me.
>>
Because I like audiovisual storytelling and anime, like animation in general, has 'purity' that live action film cannot match. It's like photographs versus paintings, the former is always a compromise while the latter has no limits.
>>
I dont, its just a timewaster.
>>
>>149379215
I'm currently trying to find a reason not to hate anime. The last time i thought "hey maybe all anime isn't garbage" was when Rakugo aired
>>
>>149380592
Have you considered watching something not trash?
>>
>>149380651
Yes, as i have said, i watched Rakugo

You all should kill yourselves for replying this thread.

I love the exaggerated nature of anime. Expressions and scenes can be forced to an extreme that you'll be hard pressed to find in other mediums. For me, it feels like a anime allows a creators to test the limits of their creativity. And I love to see just how much can someone's creation surprise me or show me something I've haven't seen or do something I have scene in a way totally new to me.
>>
>>149380789
Care to elaborate?
>>
>>149380838
Or you are just a pervert degenerate.
>>
I love the japanese animation style which focuses on static reaction and character interaction rather than fluidity of movement and realism. I still enjoy a classic Disney movie, but something about anime gives me a feel I can't find anywhere else and a lot of it has to do with style. I think it dates back to ancient japanese wood block art or something but yea, anime is a distinct style and I love it.
>>
>>149380713
Oh okay, I was under the impression that that wasn't enough of a reason to not hate anime.

>>149380903
It dates back to Tezuka cost-saving.
>>
>>149380944
That's largely true as well but I know I read about how it's more than just jew techniques to cut costs. A lot of it does stem from ancient japanese art and culture. I mean they were drawing octopus tentacle hentai long before people cared about cost of production. Some stuff is just ingrained from thousands of years of culture.
>>
It's my anti-drug
>>
>>149381050
What's your source on that?
>>
>>149381154
My ass.
>>
>>149381220
Got a link? Can't find it online.
>>
>>149379554
Mostly from falling headfirst into my grave
>>
>>149381050
tentacle in porn came from the censorship of the Mcdouglas era of japan. those laws havent changed due to the very conservative mindset of the japanese.
>>
>>149379497
>The sense of community is pretty nice too
That can be a bad thing too.
The kind of shows you watch is a sort of social status thing, and certain people avoid watching or admitting they watch shows just to fit in.

In other words, when in a community you shouldn't be pressured to watch anything just because other people say it's good or shit. But it's hard to not want to feel like you belong and have to adapt your tastes.
>>
>>149381230
It was when I was in college so unless your on a university campus with access to databases I probably can't give you the exact reference. It was on JSTOR in a journal on japanese media. If you google japanese wood block prints you should find some stuff.

If you meant about the tentacle hentai then just google "ancient Japanese tentacle porn" or something along those lines, that's one of the more well known japanese cultural works. There has been quite a bit written on why Japan in particular has a history with it.
>>
>>149379215
>Why do you love anime?
I don't. I love manga.
>as in what specific things about anime makes you love anime.
They advertise my favorite manga so their sales will boost.

That scene is just one example, and besides, it did a better job at making me laugh than turning me on. I love the absurdity of it. It breaks my suspension of disbelief and I end up saying "did they really put that much effort in animating a skirt getting flipped?"

Anime crosses lines and boundaries that other mediums either can't or won't. Sometimes they cross lines I didn't know existed until they were crossed. Bottom line is I love to be surprised by the limits of human imagination, and anime pushes those limits further than most.
>>
>>149381343
Yea in that case it's more hundreds of years instead of thousands but my point was mostly about anime incorporating all these things from history to make it the unique style it is today. Its not just some random decision to draw cute girls with static background.
>>
>>149379215
I like animation but the west hates it so I'm stuck most of the time

also certain genres and gimmacks can only be found in anime and its related genres
>>
I'm currently learning Japanese so it helps me with that. It is also one of the few things that I'm actually good at (i.e. I know more than most people I know about anime). I'm also a writer so taking in new settings and stories and characters is really helpful for me.
>>
>>149381397
I meant your source for ancient Japanese art influencing contemporary anime production. Tentacles are irrelevant, I dunno why you bring it up.

I like a good anime as much as I like any television. I watch and discuss whatever catches my interest, western or eastern. The difference is that /tv/ is a horrid pit of normalfags and underageb& while /a/ hasn't gotten nearly as bad, so if I come to 4chan to discuss Lain I'll have a much less infuriating experience than if I wanted to discuss Twin Peaks.
>>
>>149381736
Well it's not entirely irrelevant because it's a clear example of japanese culture influencing taste in media. Again, unless you can tell me you have access to lexusnexus, JSTOR or other academic databases, I will have trouble giving you the full article beyond the extract.

https://books.google.com/books?id=TNJulkqR774C&pg=PA34&lpg=PA34&dq=manga+and+anime+post.modern+woodblock+prints&source=bl&ots=npUzw7Y_yD&sig=SRzpEdm93ucEONJw89hOauPGcCw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiE2_2tqI_QAhVmsVQKHdH4DbgQ6AEIMzAD#v=onepage&q=manga%20and%20anime%20post.modern%20woodblock%20prints&f=false

This isn't it but it's close enough to give you a reference for the type of works you should be looking for. Unfortunately a lot of the best writing is probably behind some sort of paywall, but if you googlefu enough along the lines of post modern japanese media along with keywords like anime and manga etc. There is a ton out there to read. It's a really verbose and lengthy topic but if you're interested in that sort of stuff, there definitely isn't a lack of work online. I only took a 200 level class on it, friends of mine majored in japanese literature and could give much better explanations so just keep googling you'll come across it eventually like I did reaserching.
