AE86 is great. Balanced FR with a very short wheelbase, they just don't make them like that anymore. The only exception is the Miata with it's inferior body type. After it was discontinued, Toyota actually didn't have a car like that in their lineup until they made the GT86 (MR2 is MR, Supra is a much heavier luxury car). Although GT86 weights about as much as Silvia.

There is no roof (that's already bad) and the car is heavier to compensate for the lack of rigidity with additional bars. Of course it's inferior. 3 door hatch is the best body type for compact cars. You can haul shit by folding the backseats too. And AE86 coupe is even lighter than the hatch.

AE86s (at least in the US) aren't identical to the JDM spec and as a result have a lot of fucky additions to mess with emmissions. From the top of my head the manifold is the main thing I can think of.
They make close to no power and a fully built 4A-GE is still making like three hundred-ish tops. For a lot of money.
The stock suspension is garbage, the stock transmission won't handle much for torque.
Getting one in the US means paying pretty damn high prices due to Takumi tax or buying a molested one with body rust and god knows what poorly installed mods.
There are many great cars for drifting. AW11 as others have mentioned. Same engine but it's in the back which means snap oversteer. If you like dying, pick up one of those. Or a bike. I'm partial to Bakuon!! myself.
