This is also a good point. They had to flee the PI when they took the fragment because the entire world was coming apart without its jewel. Very different from the previous PIs.

This does cause some undeniable issues, though. If we're to say that each PI has an amorphous -some entity which exists within the PI and possesses the fragment unique to that PI- that would seem to make a lot of sense. Episode 2 has the vacuum cleaner itself, with the fragment bound to the on-switch
Episode 3 had the ganguro bondage monster
and Episode 5 had the clocktower, which was apparently just an extension of the entity which constituted the entire PI.

However, what are we supposed to do about episode 1? There was no construct, entity or creature which possessed the fragment. Hell, they didn't even find the fragment in that PI: they brought it with them, embedded in Cocona's leg.

That means that the PI in episode 1 had no fragment unique to itself. It also means, going by the logic above, that Cocona would have to be an amorphous, since she doesn't just have a fragment, but a fragment is literally part of her body.

Also her conversation with Yayaka did definitely show some development. She was more assertive, she relented an honest, affective reason for doing what she's doing and the absolutely raw incredulity that she directed at Yayaka at the end of the episode spoke volumes. She's standing up for herself and what she wants, which feels like it's a big improvement from how disinterested she was in episode 1.

Five episodes in and I already grow tired of watching this. This anime has a crude storyboarding, like a timeskip out of nowhere. An amateurish purposeless direction completely devoid of ideas whatsoever, other than wasting time and effort.

The fights are uninspired, and have no suspense whatsoever (unlike in Madoka). The plot tries to pretend it's DEEP, but obviously it won't deliver anything at all. The yuribait will probably too, because of bullshit like 'I grow as a character thanks to you, Papika!' and then open ending.

The background setting and animation are inconsistent mess (inb4 "I-It's eclectic! I-It's parody", etc).

The sound direction is totally inept, some scenes didn't even have a background music, and the sound engineering quality is free sample tier. Quite ironic when it references a lot of sound engineering terms.

The fanservice is also tacky, disgusting and creepy. They don't even try to hide they're trying to please male otaku's gaze.

It wasn't even a fun experience, watching this. It felt like a chorw.

Overall, it doesn't even meet the criteria for being a good animation, let alone being a future classic equal to Madoka or Card Captor Sakura. I only watched this because someone mentioned it being similar to Gainax or Imaishi, and also a deep and symbolic magical girl show. Quite disappointing, indeed.

What would your reaction be if they introduced a male love interest and it ended with one of the girls getting with him? Just trying to figure out who's watching this because they have good taste and who's watching this because they're /u/fags.

This is wrong. When Cocona transforms her thigh glows and a fragment comes out of it. Also Welwitschia went after the fragment in her thigh.

When Ep1 aired we thought that the fragment they brought back must have been from her thigh, but we have had evidence to the contrary since then so that fragment, the one that Papika now uses to transform, must have come from either the bottom of the river (which tried to kill Papika by freezing over) or from the worm that destroyed their igloo and ran off with Cocona's glasses.

Any romance would feel highly out of place, and introducing a character to the main cast at this stage would just feel like it's compromising the friendship that the last 5 episodes have been building, and all the character development that has been in service of. I wouldn't particularly care if there was a het end, but I would really rather they not try to shoehorn a new protagonist into the cast just for the sake of dick to sit on in the epilogue.

A PI with a short-term male love interest might be a really cool way to explore Cocona's daddy issues, though.
