It would've been a much easier viewing. Tried shoving too much info in such a small timeframe, it suffered greatly from it. Also took away the overall comfy feeling you get from watching the older stuff.

Well, one, trying that shit risks fucking up 12 dimensions, so it's not going to happen often.
Two, with Seto and the other Masaki family members, there's plenty of political shenanigans they can work through. Shit that you can't just solve with a swordfight.

Tenchi will never be a DBZ powerlevel wankfest, that's a given. But completely removing tension from the series just leaves a whole lotta slice-of-life stuff with nothing really balance it out.

Although I loved the shenanigans they would get into during the downtime; I also really loved that awesome introduction and showdown with Kagato or when Dr. Clay tried to fuck with them, ultimately meeting his end. Trying to include a fight would have to be something very unconventional, like how you mentioned with the family getting involved in politics. Maybe being pressured into something to preserve the peace.
