She's obviously still heavily traumatized but that was expected from the beginning, there was no way Lise returning to a normal life would be without hurdles to cross either way. All in all, Lise Route seems like they went all out. I don't know what I was expecting, maybe an inverted Katia route, but they went for full Suffering by putting her back in Axmann's clutches. Hopefully she gets better after it's all over. I'm guessing the meat of the route, that we haven't seen yet, is how Theo gets his sister back from Axmann.

Also, it's interesting that Farka has the same coloring as Annette. She seems cute, but if that's the case I could see why Aannette would be especially traumatized by killing her.

It, sadly, makes sense though. Beatrix lacks the social skills necessary to make him truly come over to her side, and intimidation and fear no longer work on him after his character development in the first VN. Without Lise, she has nothing to offer him and with Lise out of the picture, thanks to her second trip to the funhouse, there isn't anything there to make him choose her over Iris. She never opened up to him, she's just his boss, and one he doesn't like at that, while Iris is his friend.

This is actually the best possible end for Lise. Amnesia is a perfect way for her to have a second chance at life without all the horrible mental baggage she'd have to otherwise deal with. It will just take time to see her condition improve.

That's just the thing, hanging out with the Werewolves should have been like basically another squadron for him. Showing him there's good people even in this dark place. And to top it all off Beatrix at her softest, maybe even a socially awkward loser stuttering like she used to be. It would have forced him make a horrible choice, when it came down to the people he had grown to love, versus the new set of people he had grown to love. Instead, we don't even have a Werewolf squadron to interact with. Let alone a Beatrix that inspires or Theo grows to love.

And at the end of the first VN, Theo was still undecided. That's what riles especially - he wasn't set on being an Iris loyalist.

I don't know why, maybe I'm just being set up, but I kind of have a sinking feeling in my heart. Maybe I just fooled myself into thinking Martyrs would be much better than it ended up being.

You know, after playing though some of Martyrs, I have to conclude that Beatrix is a really, really unlikable person. Yeah, there's a very sympathetic reason as to why, and I wouldn't pass up a route to defrost or romance her, but that doesn't change the fact that she's just not a very pleasant person at all. Whenever she's on screen, she's written in such a way that I just want to smash her face in (which I'm pretty sure they were going for). Even Lise's route she comes off as a horrible cunt (really disappointed with age there). The route where she's the most likable is Irisdina's oddly enough.

The real shame is that there seems to be so many hints of more going on with her (because BiS), but they always back her down from it so she comes off as nothing more then a villain.

So you end up with this alternating, mixed bag of emotions. You end up both hating and pitying her, repulsed by her and lusting for her, and just all around confused. Her deaths in particular strikes a strange chord, as you can't help but feel both depressed and feeling a sense of triumph.

Compare her to Lise, who's usually portrayed in a very tragic light, and even her "evil" acts (such as killing Pham or Katia) are depressing rather then anger inducing.

I hurts even more, because we'll never get an SM Extra or BiS VN to correct the record.

I seriously think that they cut her scenes down to save money because of Yukarin

Like some other people said, Beatrix died back in 78. What you have in 83 is a crude effigy of what Beatrix Breheme was, like a shambling zombie.

Of course, some of her shitters would say that her behavior in 83 is her true self, but they don't really get her. And you know, if she'd survived Iris's route after their reconciliation, they probably would have gone back to being family and you'd have seen a much "nicer" Beatrix.

Not necessarily. Her plan never got to play out, so we never got proof one way or the other. It also hurts her validity. We'll never know if all the cruelty she committed upon herself and others was worth it in the end either. These are questions that should really be answered and it's a shame that Lise's routes didn't elaborate at all on her character.

SM tends to play her pretty negatively though, not helped that her actions aren't given much context, and her plans and motivations are mostly kept hidden. We know that she made a vow with Jurgen and that what she does is in his name. We also know that her seven years in the stasi have made her a monster with her humanity buried deep in her heart. If only we had BiS completely translated, then we may be able to make a better call.

Her dad believed that people should be absolutely obedient to the state. Even the heads of state needed to be subsumed to the all powerful monolithic state (think Ingsoc from 1984). I think Jurgen's wishes would have been for her and Iris to be happy. Everything he did seemed to revolve around making things better for them. The only reason he got involved in politics was because of Beatrix. He probably thought that if the DDR went tits up, that was bad news for everyone in the long term, including Iris and Beatrix. So he wanted to create a better world not for humanity, but so those two would be better off. This is further evidenced by just how much he's willing to budge on his ideals to protect those two (like helping the Stasi), and the fact that he chose Iris in the end over his plans. So in a sense, Iris and Beatrix driving themselves into depression would have been the last thing he'd want.

Remember that the arc words in BiS/SM said in variation by both Theo and Jurgen are:

"Even so... even so, all I could think of was that I wanted to protect you."

Beatrix comes off as a woman at sea clutching on a lifeline (Jurgen's memories). She lost sight of what he'd actually want because she's so obsessed with the last thing that keeps her heart going. Wish things were more like those Chinkfics and that she'd actually open up instead of remaining a distant, and mysterious villain. Maybe even turn the backstab scene into an actual choice after humanizing her a little.

I think that was an observation, rather than something she ever planned to get out of or use. The DDR is a cage, which I believe is talking through the general context of a communist nation in wartime, and how it's easier to get in rather than out. If there is any attachment to the DDR by her, it'd be Jurgen and maybe Iris. Otherwise she would have committed suicide not long after Jurgen's death.

It's because she's obsessed with that thing she can't see what he wanted. If the only way for her to be happy is with Jurgen, how can she follow his intentions?

But what did they intend to do with it? As of summer of '77 Jürgen has yet to start a proper plot and the Stasi and Abel seem to have him by the Balls.
