Gogeta is the merging of Goku and Vegeta with one of them lowering their powerlevel to match the other.

Even without the time limit constraint, Vegito wins.

No, them matching their power level doesn't somehow nerf the fused form. That logic doesn't work since with your theory they could go SSJ when they fuse and be insanely stronger then their kai earing fusion(Vegito) because they were only in their base forms when they fused.

But the show pretty much says that the earrings are a "full" fusion, and thus stronger than the partial fusion from the dance. So Vegito wipes the floor with Gogeta

They actually bring this point up. Old Kai says something along the lines of the transformation would only lock them into a Super Saiyan state rather than increase the base form. Which would eat at their stamina and Ki at a faster rate.
