Daisuki subs are so bad that I suggest you watch it raw if you know some moon. It has a couple of difficult phrases but the anime is much, much easier Japanese than the manga.

I want to sub the anime but can't be arsed with timing and whatnot so probably not gonna happen.

I get what you're saying. I think the problem with this episode is that they didn't make Tama very expressive. For example when that girl suddenly appeared there was a long pause and then she didn't really react. It was kind of awkward.

But I've liked other scenes the anime adapted, like when Kayo was composing and didn't know Yumine was there. That whole scene was pretty good.
But yeah overall the manga definitely has more 'life' to it.

There hasn't been a great SoL since Non Non Biyori.

There's several factors as to why Stella doesn't have nearly the same kind of impact on the viewer as NNB, but the most glaring one is probably the lack of a show-stealing character like Renge.
tl;dr: NNB's source material was a lot better.

It's about the office life, it doesn't delve much into the hardships of gamedev beyond the hollow jokes about staying the night at crunch time and devs being tired and drinking Red Bull. Plus, the show is just about the graphics department. Personally I'd like a show where we follow an assistant producer or something.

I don't know what your point is about Flying Witch. I mean, I understand it didn't charm you, but I don't see how the magic is more arbitrary than any other show that has supernatural elements, and SoLs are generally of no or little consequence. Did you like Non Non Biyori? To me, Flying Witch is a more mature (not better, just not all schoolgirls) take on that combined with magical realism. The latter aspect makes up for the lack of schoolgirl whimsy and nicely wove some surprise and wonder into otherwise-normal country life. Definitely the high point of the season and maybe year, for me. But I'm probably insane.

I actually did watch it, it provoked enough (contradictory) emotions in me to go fucking translate its manga. That's something that I'm considering in regards to Stella, too, but it's much closer to the source material so not sure yet.

There are some jokes and moments that are missed in the anime but it follows the plot close enough to question the need for that. Plus I'm afraid it's gonna look like I'm just riding the hype train like it often happens when an adaptation is airing - and that's how it basically is.

Jesus, this thread. Flying Witch was very good (except for a couple of so-so episodes), NNB was very good, hell, I still consider Stella a pretty good show despite what I said. Didn't think there would be such a fiery discussion of SoL merits/demerits, although it is fun to read.

It would probably be the opposite, people who are watching the adaption and want to check out the source are just going to be happy that someone is translating it. But if the plot is almost exactly the same then it might not be worth it, depending on the amount of time and effort it would require.
