False

> or a teenager
That's all anime, not just isekai. Seriously, if you hate teenaged/child protagonists you chose the wrong hobby, they've dominated it for a long time.

>why not self insert into someone whos a total badass?
>what is relatability
It's easier to empathize with personalities that are closer to yours.

>I don't care about my duties I just want to watch anime and play videogames but also I'm hypercompetent, tip my fedora ten times a day and know exactly how to get foreign women on my cock with no effort
He's not a NEET protag, but they tried damn hard to make him seem like one.
>>149016471
You despicable slut!

Was it Log Horizon or Overlord where the guild's primary rule was "No NEETs allowed"?
>>149017310
Overlord I think. The main cast of Log Horizon wasn't even in a guild in the beginning.

>Isekai
You're writing a Japanese word in roumaji, and if that wasn't pathetic enough, the term refers to something developed by English science fiction writers, which the Japanese got into and have been translating and publishing in themed literary magazines and single volume releases since the 80s.
You're fucking pathetic and you reek of being a teenager trying too hard. Look up what 異世界 means.
>>149020324
Anime in Japanese refers to any animation.
Anime in English refers to only japanese animation.
It's called a loanword. Slightly different meanings are a given. Isekai is the baka gaijin word for shows where MC goes to another world. (I.E.
異 = different
世界 = world)
>>149016273
This isn't exactly hard since OP failed to mention the third major category of isekai protagonists.
Generic ordinary salarymen.
>>149022798
Even then, there's the main dude in that "reborn as a goblin" thing, who I think was some overpowered hero type in his original world too.
Not that that made it any more readable, mind you.
Breaking news: 90% of isekai is SAO ripoff
>protagonist isnt a NEET
FUCKING DROPPED
>>149024080
You say that like SAO wasn't a ripoff itself.
>>149024170
There was no notable isekai in that format before.
>>149024170
wtf i hate ripoff now
>>149016252
Sararyman protag is just as bad
>>149020324
>You're writing a Japanese word in roumaji
Go the fuck away.
>>149024213
I don't think it matters too much what the MC was in the previous world unless it actually has relevance to the story.
99% of the time it's just an excuse to make anime references.
>>149016252
What are you gonna do about it, bitch? You get jobs because of that.
>>149024199
.hack
>>149024199
It's just "stuck in a game" plus "generic isekai", which there are plenty of examples of. Just because it was the first to make it big doesn't mean it was particularly original (or particularly derivative relative to the rest of the field either, I guess).
I can only speak for the first arc though, because who the fuck knows anything about SAO past that anyway.
>>149016252
It was made for self-insert
>>149020324
>isekai is a known genre and is widely written that way that way
>being this autistic about nothing
sure is reddit around here
>>149016252
You know we have isekai with the protag being salarymen and women, right? They're just as bad.
>>149024080
Narou isekai mostly didn't have anything to do with SAO though.
Tropes like monster, otome and baby reincarnations and many more existed way before SAO was even out.
Popular series later on like Kuro No Maou, isekai saishinbue, kenkyo kenjitsu MT etc just further refined them and made them what they are today completely seperate from SAO(Whis is not even an isekai btw, they're LITERALLY in a game)
