Ashtually, the original Dragon Ball was dubbed first by Funimation, but they only aired 13 episodes before they decided to skip over to DBZ. It's only when DBZ was moved from syndication to Toonami (around the time Super Saiyan Gokou debuted) when they decided to try again with the original Dragon Ball and everyone pretty much treated it as DBZ: The Early Years.
