Depends on why Honey and Clover made you feel empty. This series is a lot more uplifting with less romantic drama, since it's a seinen instead of a josei. The last few volumes have been very uplifting.

This volume was great. I know the mangaka had an injury that hospitalized her for a while but you can tell with this that she's well enough to draw like she used to, it looks much better than the last volume.

Yeah, it doesn't have that sort of drama, and it probably won't 3-gatsu is a story of the main character's growth and the events of the people around him, it isn't a relationship/romance drama. It's not nearly as melodramatic, either, although it'll probably get there when we get his sister's backstory.

There's plenty of drama, but it doesn't feel like I have to slog through it. In fact, it's actually pretty interesting when things go ass-up because the writing's usually on point about resolving everything without leaving a brown streak on the walls.

The anime won't adapt the best parts of the manga (the last 4 volumes or so) so if you really like it you should definitely give the manga a go. I've been following the series for a while now and I've enjoyed the anime adaptation, me knowing what happens next hasn't really influenced my enjoyment too much.

He is currently attending high school with the middle sister, they're 3-4 years apart. As for the older sister, she's probably at least 6 years older than him. They don't give specific ages, but she is even older than his foster sister, so it's likely his age gap with Akari is larger than with Hina.

It's not, it's like that in manga. She is just intentionally drawn and written in a childish manner. It's part of her character.

He shows this side to the entire family, they are basically his family now. It's just that Akari is the one that brought him in.

He doesn't really get with any of the girls, anyway. He's in love with Hina but she hasn't reciprocated yet, Rei's own romance isn't really the focus of the series, it's more about the day to day trials of himself and those around him.

Unlike some other manga (mononofu, 81diver), the game itself takes a backseat to the characters. But I'm loving the caricatures of all the pro-players! I kinda wish someone would do something like that for the international chess world. Some of the GMs are insane.

I'm surprised that they are adding more shogi to the anime compared to the manga. (They showed a game end that was a mate in 21 in the last episode.) Hopefully, they'll soon animate the intro to the rules of shogi for the girls, using cats for the pieces.

Yeah, he's a year behind because he took off for shogi or whatever. I believe he actually never intended to go to high school, but changed his mind after he moved out or whatever. It's been a while so I forgot myself, but he is definitely a year older than normal. He's 19 now and the new term didn't start too long ago.
