I already read the novels before I started on this show. After the episode where Wiz first appeared, I learned that they skipped Wiz's graveyard scene. I stopped watching after this. It's not really that they skipped things that made me stop, that was more of a last straw.
After watching for a while it just made me want to reread the novels. What I had in my mind while reading was a lot more awesome which the show destroyed with it's low quality visual direction. For example, that scene with the last encounter with Beldia looked really weak. Rewatch that few minutes where he cursed Darkness, the punchline wasn't executed well. They should have deformed the art further with sketchy outlines. And I imagined Megumin's explosions to be more glorious. Her body would have sparks flying out, the ground she's on should be shaking and the air around her should be so hot that it distorts whatever is in the background. Instead we get saturated wallpaper backgrounds. That's just to name a few. Maybe they needed more budget or a better director but either way the show is still poor. I felt if I continue watching further I would have more complaints and just get me more frustrated.

It's a really sub par adaptation, in my opinion. it has completed it's purpose of gaining interests from porn artists and need not continue for another season.

I don't really care about if it was a poor adaption because I don't really care about the source material. Light novels are pretty much garbage. It was a pretty fun show that worked pretty well on it's own, and it was the sleeper of the season if not the year. It was obvious that it was on a tight budget, but in my honest opinion it handled it pretty well.

Except one of the problems with the show is precisely that it doesn't work on its own. It's really blatant about being awkwardly skipping over material with zero grace.

The anime has much better comedy than the LN, the added jokes and the way it adapts the story make it a lot better.

For example when Kazuma kills the frogs, that's not funny in the LN, it is in the anime. Not only the jokes but also the fights, the fight against the Dullahan was a lot cooler in the anime

The director did an amazing job with the way he adapted and added a lot of scenes, and the VA cast is great too.

Because the LN illustrations are just generic moe art. The anime designs are cutesy but they work much better for the tone of the series and the characters

The only joke I remember from the show was Kazuma answer with "Yes yes, I'm Kazuma" everytime someone calls him.

Everything else is pretty much in the novels, sometimes in a few alterations.
For example, when Lalatina was facing Beldia, there was a long dramatic description with a serious tone moments before and upto when she slashed the Dullahan, only for her swing to fall short a few inches in front of him which shocked everyone including Beldia. Then she pulled her sword back as if nothing happened to hide her embarassment. Then it continued in a serious tone as if the author was sympathizing with her. In the anime she slashed two stones on the front left and back right of Beldia which really contradicts her character of not being able to hit anything. Her kill count should stay zero, living thing or otherwise.

Also, if you could, please elaborate how the way Kazuma killed the frogs in the anime was any different from the novel.
