Episodes 13-18 are pretty hard to watch because they show Subaru's lowest moments. He makes one mistake after another, pushes most of the people that cared about him away, is taken advantage by, struggles in vain, and finally dies (multiple times).
From episode 19 until the end it's redemption time. You could enjoy those episodes by themselves most likely, but if you forced yourself through episodes 13-18 they are even more satisfying.

I'd say it's a 7/10 or 8/10 but that's just me. It's certainly got the hallmarks that brand most bad anime though:

Re:Zero actually makes these elements work though. The show could certainly do with more male characters, but it's hardly devoid of them and the ones that are there are pretty good.

Subaru being a "NEET" from modern day Japan is obviously self-insert bait. but fortunately neither the fact that he is from a different universe or a NEET seem to matter too much. Stories benefit from "outsider" protagonists to organically explain the world and Subaru hardly acts like a shut-in. The story probably would've worked better if he hadn't "magically" appeared in an alternate universe and had instead been an outsider for some other reason but it's not too hard to suspend your disbelief on this point.

I would also say this is the only show I've seen where the "Everyone loves the MC" trope makes sense. Subaru purposely repeats the same events to secure the best outcome and because he's weak, which is another strong point for the show that he never becomes anything more than a weakling, he has to play politics so people like and trust him. In the failed loops, most people hate his guts and this is especially true during episodes 13-18. Even the fact that Rem seems to unconditionally love him isn't that bad considering she winds up in a coma and her likability was clearly crafted to motivate Subaru for later Arcs and create drama. Everyone loving Subaru seems incidental to him trying accomplishing his goals.

Re:zero has faults resulting from its attempt to market to Otaku that keeps it from being amazing; however, I don't think any of them prevent the show from being great. This is one of those shows I thought I would hate but ended up really enjoying.
