Currently on weekend #6 and it's projected to reach 1.9bil today(Sunday in Japan). Total gross after weekend #5 was at 1.74 billion.

Did it deserve to surpass K-On! the movie so quickly?

Barely, last one didn't gross over 400m with 120 screenings and got horrible reviews, last time I saw it on yahoo jp it had like 2 stars. That's pretty bad.

Can't wait for her next release. 200 screens minimum are guaranteed. This passed Summer Wars.

A deaf girl that gets bullied by an asshole, who later meet each other in different circumstances.

She blows him off for the past insults.

Joking. She's pretty open about things. I'm glad they don't end up together though. He's an ass.

What? I thought Summer Wars made 8 billion.

Why are people so excited for this? The manga was mediocre.

>>148895140
18 million which is pretty good for late night anime standards. Just to put have some context, this movie will gross more than Batman vs Superman, Feminazi Ghostbusters, or Deadpoll in Japan, with only a fraction of screenings.
>>
I don't really understand the series.

I thought it was trying to say something about the nature of forgiveness and repentance, but even near the end of the series it is clear that all his actions amount to little as he must basically forever be a slave to his past actions from as a child.

From the get-go, the girl was quite tolerant and a total doormat, so when the bully gets bullied himself as a scapegoat for the class, I am not sure how they want us to feel about that.
The bully himself doesn't seem to know either.
He clearly suffered in the place of his former target and was deeply affected by it, especially when his former friends carried it out.
Yet by some twisted logic that seems to lack any empathy, the character was supposed to accept this vigilante justice because of karma?

What gives these people the right to do this?
Did the kid act horribly? Yes.
Does this mean you can act horribly too? No.

Too many of the characters' decisions in the manga just made me mad because they seemed narrow minded at best and nonsensical at worst, leaving me with a story that make me wonder what would've happened if they had acted differently, or had been capable of introspection without self-deprecation.
>>
>>148895336
Wow I am sure it is really hard to out-gross three terrible, poorly-executed western films in an eastern market.
It must be an amazing adaptation.
>>
>>148896167

>>148896754
>deadpool

It had some decent jokes, but a lot of it was over-done garbage that ends up becoming what it claims to be subverting: a generic capeshit flick.
>>
>>148887228
What did GuP make again?
>>
>>148897356
Like 2.5 billion I think. It will definitely surpass it since GuP made that in close to 50 weeks.
>>
>>148897396
It already passed it on viewings. GaruPan just had that ridiculous 4DX success that inflated the numbers quite a bit. Kinda retarded that KyoAni didn't jump on that.
>>
>>148897748
I think it was an obvious choice for GnP since pretty much everything but the characters was in 3D already. Koe no Katachi or any other 2D anime would look like cardboard cutouts in 3D.

Pony Canyon helped with the music and VAs

Kodansha is the manga publisher

It's their LN, they're gonna profit regardless.
>>
>>148912861
>it's their ln

Enjoy it while it lasts. Nobody is submitting their works over to kyoani these days.
>>
>>148912861
But I want them to have a show that can sell 40-50k for the last time. BD sales are declining very fast, it'd be nice to have a mega-hit once again.
>>
>>148912944
They are still getting submissions, there are just dozens in the dust bins that got the "you tried" mention.
>>
>>148912974
>BD Sales are dwindling
>meanwhile just last season LL sold more than 60k.
Face it anon Kyoto doesn't work on super popular IPs anymore. And the lucky strike that was Keion is too far fetched to happen again in this decade.
>>
>>148912706
>now 50% of its output are gay toy commercials

Thank god. Most of the wealth in the industry comes from merchs anyway. Now they're swimming in money. That'll never happen to Kyoani.
>>
>>148913067
You're right. Just look at the plethora of "new" works they're getting.

Where can I watch Koe no Katachi and Kimi no na wa?
>>
>>148912226
Not him, but I remember a Watanabe interview were he talks Bebop was meant to sell spaceships and shit at first, but he couldn't make that type of show. That early briefing is not all that different from selling robots.
>>
>>148911048
They have a property designated to produce merchandise, and let's not forget Kyoani now has enough money to contract people capable of making figures for them.
>>
>>148913233

The competition's still open until December, plenty of time to finish up that Keitai/Virtual Sky Lantern/Door Punch draft.
>>
>>148915927
In Japan and I think the US-run of Kimi no na wa will start soon.
>>
BDs WHEN, I dont think I can wait much longer.
>>
>>148913067
Honestly Kyoani's novel/merch division in general just doesn't have enough marketing to attract the attention of professional writers. Their last and only real output from that work is Violet (and Robotic Heart Update, which got a honorary mention), and afterwards it's ogre for two years. This year is the eighth competition and I fear that it's as >>148912944
said.

After which point I wish Kyoani can start adapting already-existing good IPs.

They're already doing that, probably because they only got 1 good LN in their what, 7 years of doing contests?
>>
>>148917266
They can just hire a writer and try another original. Did Tamako Market's mediocre sales scare them that much?
>>
>>148917391
RomeoXIshihara and NisioXTakemoto fucking when?
>>
>>148917391
They went on to do Tamako Love Story so probably not. I could see Yamada and Yoshida doing another original in the future.

Kouya was utter shit and Jinrui's ending went to complete shit. Why are we hyping this guy again?
>>

takemoto should have done zaregoto
>>
>>148917584
Tanaka Romeo is AURA's author and Chuu2 "author" just ripped his ideas off. Unfortunately, Chuu2 anime happened six months earlier than AURA.

I have faith
>>
>>148918885
You now realise that Yoshida has written 3 movies with nearly 7 Bil Yen between them.
>>
>>148918885
why is yamada the only one who does originals?
>>
>>148919516
She's their ace. That's what Kyoani is about, training their young talent and letting them have the spotlight
>>
>>148919516
Takemoto and Utsumi both did originals in the Free franchise. But Yamada is maybe the most proven director for the Hatta couple.
>>
>>148919516
Technically Free TV was original, not even the same name as the LN(High Speed).

At an average of 1,600 yen a ticket. It probably made around ¥67,587,200

Early 30's Yamada officially blew mid-20's Yamada the fuck out.

Yamada is the youngest successful Anime director. Youngest director to 20k+BD Sales and Youngest director to 1.5Bil+ box office performance. Can't wait to see her career develop more.

I always hoped for a Yamada/Yoshida adaptation of that but we all know that there is no way that Manga is getting an adaptation.

I like it when Yamada directs. Since she doesn't do LN adaptations her stuff feels already superior from the get-go without the usual internal monologuing and over expository dialogue that comes from adapting from such medium.

I love the way she directs characters and the environment. The characters are always really full of life and the photography fleshes out the room pretty well.
>>
>>148921560
I think she depicts characters the best out of their directors.

>>148921716
The best out of anyone of the newer generation. Tamako Love Story had moments of Takahata brilliance.
