Characters that /a/ has forgotten
>>148879957
Damn, no one has discussed her in about 15 years
Why didn't they have more staying power? Nobody gives a shit about Lucky Star anymore.
>>148879915
She was never one of the more popular Azumangas and was basically supplanted by Yotsuba, rendering her even more irrelevant.
>>148881668
>lucky star aired over 10 years ago
She's forgotten you anon
>>148881939
This one makes me sad.
>>148881939
>>148883442
This is now a sad nostalgia thread.
>>148881668
We have threads every once in a while, maybe two a week sometimes. When an anime has no on going anime or manga, it's hard to keep up with it without making the fanbase look like a bunch of autists.Haven't seen it and want to see it, what is it about exactly? Sounds like my type from what I have heard.
>>148881668
Reference gag humour almost always ages poorly.
I still love Kagamin though.
>>148883721
It's just typical SoL. Akira was the funniest part and she's not even one of the main cast.
>>148883517
Sure.
She's obviously not completely forgotten, but I just can't figure out why so much official art tries to pair her with that colorswapped chick on the right who I don't even remember being in the show.
>>148879915
You're seriously making me want to rewatch this show now.
>>148883721
>what is it about exactly?
Cute girls doing cute things. Heavy on referential humor which can be a nostalgia rush or a callback to things you'd rather forget depending on your attitude towards that era.
>>148879915
she will forever live on in /v/ filename threads
>alan wake.gif
>>148884050
I had the biggest crushes on all of those hoes.
I don't want to sound like a nostalgia fag, but I can't help it. I identify more with older anime. I don't know if it was because I was an otaku during my grade school to lowerclassman in college years or because only the best anime/manga came out to the West back then, but most anime now feels so blah.
>>148884431
Noawadays there's more anime per cour than there used to be anime per year. That leads to a lot more crappy adaptations of shitty material nobody would've normally considered.
Still the best magical girl show ever made.
>>148884561
That's very true. When you look up a list of anime made during the 90s it pales in comparison to the amount made during today's time.
I guess it's just another part of getting older. Like I'll rewatch some of the shit I used to be into (Slayers, Gundam Wing) and it's not like they're technically masterpieces, but I just remember the good memories and how those shows made me into who I am.
>>148885304
>>148884561
I always felt that anime series used to go on for way longer. 50+ episodes was like the norm, and the shorter ones would get OVAs instead
Am I right or is it just my nostalgia talking?
>>148885456
Almost all current daytime anime is that long as well, the short series are late night shows. Daytime anime and late night anime are made for different purposes and for different kind of audiences.
>>148885456
You're definitely right. I don't know if people had more patience back then, but anime used to usually last 30+ Series with less than 10 or so episodes would be OVAs.
Is it just me, or was anime a lot more violent back then? I grew up with the Ninja Scrolls and Demon City Shinjuku. Nowadays, violence seems very toned down.
>>148885643
It might also be the fact that the anime brought over to the west was mostly ones that would appeal to western tastes.
>>148885643
OVAs didn't have any TV censors to run things by, so they could be as violent as they wanted, and for a period, they used that for what it as worth in order to make OVA anime stand out from what you could see on TV.
>>148885456
>>148885592
Basically, daytime anime shows primarely exist to market a huge line of merchandise towards kids, and needs to stay on air while the franchise is still relevant to maximize that advertisement value.
Late night anime primarily exists just to call attention to an existing manga/LN/VN, and doesn't need to run all that long since its job is just to make people aware that this brand is a thing and show them enough of the story to make them want to pick up the source material.
>>148886038
That just makes it seem like all anime is shit made for the sole purpose of advertising something else
Aren't there shows that are more focused on ratings and gathering an audience?
>>148886302
>That just makes it seem like all anime is shit made for the sole purpose of advertising something else
A-Anon, that's literally the case
>>148886302
There are anime that focus on selling their own Blu-rays, but adaptations and march-supported shows are a large segment.
The main factor here is that airing a show is in itself not profitable for a anime studio. If I recall right, they actually outright pay to have their show aired, and then make up the money elsewhere, but I may be wrong/outdated.
Helps explain why shows are so often focused on promoting their BDs, toys, figures, books, etc.
>>148886519
NO
ITS A LIE
I CANT ACCEPT IT
>>148885304
>it's not like they're technically masterpieces, but I just remember the good memories and how those shows made me into who I am.
I watched some of those old classics for the first time while I was already in my twenties and I still loved them, so it's not all nostalgia. They really were great shows.
>>148885456
pretty sure that was never the case except for very large shows
>>148887089
Gyakuten Saiban is the single recent daytime show I can think of that didn't have a metric assload of episodes.
>>148885596
i can still see him smiling
>>148879915
>>148887780
Why is there a picture of only a pink haired girl?
>>148885074
Did /a/ ever care about Project A-ko?
>>148887894
In general, /a/ doesn't talk much about stuff that aired before /a/ existed and has never gotten any followup works. And it's not that we don't care, it's just that those series have generally been discussed to death, and so you only see them rarely.
>>148887277
most nighttime anime isn't that way though, right?
>>148888016
No. As >>148886038 says, nighttime anime basically exists to call attention to an ongoing manga or LN series by adapting the first few volumes an telling those that liked it to go pick up the books to continue following the story. There's no point in producing fifty episodes just to do that.
>>148885596
Only one of you bastards replied to his memorial thread this year
Eh maybe
>>148884356
I've been on this site from 05 till now and only really regular /v/ and /a/ and other boards rarely.
I wish I could go back.
>>148879915
>Characters that /a/ has forgotten
So basically any character from a show that isn't currently airing?
>>148887036
You're also looking back fondly at the 10-20 shows you liked and ignoring the hundreds that weren't very good. The same can be done with anime today.
>>148889383
The old greats are better than the new greats. The old greats are fondly remembered, the new greats are instantly forgotten.
>>148889535
>The old greats are better than the new greats. The old greats are fondly remembered, the new greats are instantly forgotten.
I've been watching anime since the late 1980s. And I can honestly say that when I look back, 7 of my 10 favorite shows came after the year 2000. And its not surprising since the amount of anime increased after the 90s.
So no, I don't agree. Your view is being blocked by something.
