I'm actually glad the Natsume threads are a lot slower. It's similar to Jitsu wa and Tsugimomo chapter threads in that they are comfy with only the people who enjoy the series in it. Most series that air attract a lot of crossboard shitposters who just fuck up the whole series. The style of the show too would be off putting to the garbage that come in and ruin threads anyway.

As far as the episode goes, I'm not a fan of the exorcist subplot. The episodic episodes focusing on stories about individual youkai are much better. Maybe we'll get to see Madara hulk the fuck out next ep though.

For me if I had no one else it would be Natori. He seems to care about Natsume's feelings and doesn't really force him to do anything, although he does end up helping him sometimes.

The first season was a continual barrage of heartwrenching and simple youkai stories. Add in Natsume's early angst and character development and it was perfect.

We got more proper story progression (in HD too) in subsequent seasons which was nice but that meant less of the sad standalone youkai episodes which made the series so brilliant.

Not to mention you could tell they were running out of ideas for them; you can only squeeze so many dimensions out of the "youkai + human = sad" angle before they start feeling samey.
