That describes bad AMVs.
Making a good AMV isn't easy and takes much time. First you need to find a song that fits the anime or an anime that fits the song. At this point you should have a plan which scenes you take and then you have to cut it (can be cancer if multiple anime are involved). After that you put the scenes in the right order (and don't fuck up even one frame). Then comes masking, applying effects, syncing them, changing colors/lights, etc.
