Watching Aoi Hono was priceless thanks to his character. Also, the whole series of Aoi Hono seems like a homage to Anno and Gainax, but still by the point of view from a "nobody" in comparison to these big "stars".

Eva was bad, the characters were all shit and the story was pointless. The only things it had going for it were great direction and novel visuals, and the fact that nobody had ever seen anything like it before. That's because he's JUST a director, not a franchise creator. There's a reason he hasn't created any IP other than NGE and a few flop live action films.
