The last character designs were really inefficient. Now that OLM is moving onto ToonBoom for their animation, they are changing the character designs at the same time so that they are more dynamic, more fun to to animate and they will move better/more.

You probably dont know this, but there are actually human beings that makes that animation you see on screen. With a long-running series like pokemon, in order to not fucking kill their animators, making the characters not hard to draw helps everyone.

Really though, it's only disappointing to people who were stupid enough to think Ash would win the whole thing and/or didn't realize that Greninja's rivalry was with Shota's Sceptile which already got its conclusion.
