Zeref is the big bad(or Acnologia), this is fact. There's not even really proof that this god exists, it could just be a name that they gave to the phenomenon when someone indulges in far too much dark magic and it creates a side-effect in their body. Even if he does exist he might not be evil either, you haven't even met him. All we know is that two people who used dark magic were cursed because of it. Even though Marvis did it as a last ditch effort.
