ITT: people that deserve a Nobel prize.
Miyazaki.
For his timeless stories with complex social layering.

Half of modern /a/ most likely don't even know him
>>148497120
Don't you say that even if modern /a/ hasn't seen his works they sure know about Mazinger Z.

And Getter Robo.
And Cutey Honey.
>>148496128
And then canonize him for Devilman and name a bunch of dinosaurs after Getter.
the 2009 one was bad
is the original better?

I don't care about the newfags not knowing Uncle Go

>he asks if the work that basically defined teh giant robots genre was any good
No, obviously. It's all an elaborate conspiration.
>>148499995
well I don't know how similar the new one is to the original
and I could understand something shitty (not saying it is) being influential if it came early enough

>Getter
>Nagai
>even in death Ishikawa is having his work attributed to Nagai

I would have to know what you didn't like about Shin Mazinger to say if you would like the first one.
>>148500245
But Getter Robo is a collab work.
>>148500357
Outside the first few chapters of the manga Go Nagai had next to no involvement with Getter.

really underwhelming and unsatisfying conclusion (although this isn't something that can be attributed to the older series as its obvious that the anime was just poorly planned)
only like three of the robot battles were entertaining, nothing really interesting about the plot or characters to make up for it
MC was okay I guess but nothing that great, Ashura and the other villains sans Dr. Hell/Gorgon were okay too, but apart from them all of the characters were pretty unimpressive/unlikable/forgettable. Actually now that I think about it the sharpshooter guy was kind of cool as well
Some random stuff about character motivations/explanations for things didn't really feel like they added up when I was watching it. I wasn't really interested enough in the show to put much effort into understanding them so I just got slightly annoyed by perceived inconsistencies and forgot about them, so I can't really get into specifics here. Just felt that some things weren't clear enough I guess. It just bugged me that I felt like I had to put more effort than the show was worth into coming up with an explanation/excuse for something, although admittedly nothing majorly important to my understanding of the show overall was hard to grasp

Ashura's voice actor(s?) was/were pretty good though
I guess IT was the best part of the show

He deserves to be raped after profiting off this terrible crime and the trauma and suffering of victims for years.
>>148501020
You should be fine with the original series. Original Mazinger is straight up MOTW and most of the boring characters from Shin aren't there.
Both Mazinkaisers are also worth a look though SKL is very light on plot.

You read Devilman Lady yet?
>>148501294
Not him but I read Devilman Lady expecting her own story..
Needless to say she gets fucked by Akira, that's when I dropped it. It wasn't very good though.
>>148501294
thanks, I might check it out next time I decide to watch some /m/ shit if I don't go for Gundam
>>148496128
>created the modern mecha
>created the ''bizarre'' shounen (you're welcome JoJo)
>created mahou shoujo
OP is right, the man it's a visionary.

You can fuck off Pablo
Only a retard wouldn't find Shin Mazinger to be Imagawa's masterpiece.
And you can fuck off too, tumblrina
Devilman Lady is perfect, and you're just a fag so deal with it faggot
>>148499658
>the 2009 one was bad
Shin Mazinger is the only worthwhile mecha anime for the past 10 years.

What the fuck are you babbling about. Getter Robo was created, written, and drawn by Ken. Only thing Nagai contributed was suggesting Ken go with jets instead of cars for Getter Robo.
