15 years ago, when there was no way to have access to anime outside TV or expensive bootleg VHS cassettes? Welcome. Now, in the age of internet, torrents and streaming? not so much

As much as I would like to talk, I think we should report this thread.
It would be hypocrite to have Locomotion threads while at the same time banning Toonami.
>>
>>148442818
Sure that's true but contrary to popular belief anime become mainstream is very beneficial for the industry, and this helps.
>>
Good thing.
With that being said, who watches TV anymore? If people are nostalgic for the latino dubs of anime, wouldnt it be better to launch a website that hosted those dubs in high quality?
>>
>>148442818
Sure, but if you consider normies, this is a godsend, considering the failure Animax was. This could give a better choice of anime for them, than say, CN.

They could even try to use this as a third chance to try and have Latin Americans buy anime lol, sure

Seriously who cares about this? Locomotion gives me a big nostalgia boner as it made me discover Evangelion and Akira but like hell that I'm going to put the tv on to watch some lifeless dub with the same 3 voices actors like the ones animax did.

Wow, the Animax transition was over 10 years ago.
Wonder if it'll actually be a TV station, it's not like there's a market for that anymore.
"Oh man, I want to watch anime. Better sit still until airtime and then wait a whole week for the next episode of a dub of a years old series!"
Even if you don't have decent internet for streaming/torrenting (lol latinamerica after all) it's not like you can't buy the dvds in every corner from some unshaven guy with a binder folder full of discs.

Still, nostalgia for the late 90's is strong. Even if their catalog wasn't that great towards the end, it did fill a niche back when all you could get were VHS copies and whatever DBZ/Sailor Moon/Ranma they had on local channels.
>>
It's probably dub-streaming, TV channels have no future. Even Funimation is streaming their dubbed anime now.

You just made me remember that feel of having to wait for a new, dubbed episode of an anime while watching it on TV, it was magical feel.
Or maybe just nostalgiafaggotry and the innocence of youth, since these days there-s a lotta more stuff readily available and in more accessible ways.
>>
>>148460750
I get nostalgia for all my phases of anime viewing. The dragon ball tapes off TV, the Locomotion years, the late night Toonami. The wifi wardriving for torrents of shity xvid files and the local DVD peddler. The first english fansubs you get the courage to follow and then waiting each week for the actual japanese release date.
Now that everything is at the tip of your fingers it loses a bit of its magic, but the past 20(!) years have been something and things keep changing for the better. And worse in others, there's little fansub team diversity now and latin america scene is still stuck in whatever hot shonen comes out.

Anyway, time to reminisce more about Locomotion era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqgIpNGSMOE
>>
>>148460380
It would be nice if it were a mix of both: a TV channel showing subbed anime soon after the Japanese airing.
I wonder if TV ads and cable providers would yield more money than web ads and gold subscriptions, even when having a limited time schedule.

To be fair, the colombian dub of Kenshin was still better than the US one AND the mexican dub of the movie, both of which, for some reason used different names like "Yoshi" for Yahiko and even for sone techniques.

The colombian dub at least respected that. And it was overall watchable considering it was a ninja dub pushed by Sony so that it they could distribute it in LarAm as soon as possible (and they did, that dub was the first one of the international dubs of Kenshin).

If I remember well, Locomotion did have a mix of both dubbed and subbed anime (same with other shows like the newest episodes of South Park at the time).

Like Cyber Team in Akihabara, that one was all subbed (strangely, it the movie got dubbed), then you had Serial Experiments Lain which was dubbed.
>>
>>148470599
The USA channel dub is funnier to me but no one has bothered to archive it. I know it covers the whole series because I got to see the last episode with that dub, but most people taped and saved the Mexican dub which is okay but lacks the aggressive tone of the other dub.

No. If you want to exhibit a foreign film with a dub in Mexico, you must dub it within the Mexican republic. If you can't/don't want to afford a Mexican dub, you can exhibit with subtitles (like Sony does) and everything is fine and dandy. This law only applies to cinematographic exhibitions and not on TV nor any other media.

Argentina has a similar law (of everything you broadcast dubbed, 50% must be dubbed in Argentina), but does only affects to air TV and nothing else. Also, it isn't in effect, actually.
>>
>>148487067

Just wanna add that every movie in cinemas in Mexico is available with dubs or subs. Dubs are usually in the morning and subs later in the evening or night because regardless of quality the vast majority of people prefer subs over dubs.

Mexican dubs are of really high quality, I have to admit, the lypsync and everything it's just so perfect I tend to forget if I watched a film dubbed or subbed. They also asign a voice actor to a real life actor, not to a role, so the voice is consistent in every movie they are.

FUNimation lives off DVD and BD sales, like pretty much every single anime distributor in the US.

Por que espanhol é uma língua tão merda?

I speak 4 languages and USA's english dub for Animes are particularly shit due to amateurish and excessive unnatural emphasis of the Voice Actors. Only decent English "dubs" are the ones made in high budget Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks animations with proper talented actors.

Japanese Dubs>>>>>>> Latin Spanish Dubs = Portuguese Dubs >French Dubs >>>>Other Spanish Dubs > English Dubs.
>>
>>148504436
You're a fucking idiot. We were writing about the Latin American Spanish dubs of Duckman. It had two dubs, one made for USA Channel Latin America (Now know as Universal Channel http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/usa-network-latin-america-relaunches-as-universal-channel-58960682.html ) made in Miami, Florida and other one made in Mexico made for Paramount for its broadcast in Locomotion.

Also, the "dubs" for Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks productions aren't dubs. Neither are dubs the japanese "dubs" of anime.

Technically any recording in with the voices are added latter, regardless of being the first/original artist to record the voice is considered a dub.
The definition of "making a voice in another language on top of the original one" is less technical, that is why I added quotation marks to the term dub, smartass.

Also I don't care what you said before that, I was kinda making a new point .

>Technically any recording in with the voices are added latter

The thing is that 90% of the time, the voices are recorded before the actual animation begans...

>Las voces las grabaste de una manera distinta a la que se hace en Hollywood.
>Se graban antes de hacer la película.

So, why the fuck did you quoted me?

For 3DCGI and old North-American Cell animation yes, that is truth, but that is not the case in Japan.

What a shitty selection. The worst part being the only Tetsujin-28 Go anime for sale is the '80s series no one likes. You can't get the original series or the grim dark reboot from the '00s.

Spanish openings were usually pretty good (for a dub). They were at least catchy. Not sure why they changed some stuff, like the male voice in this one:

Los Angeles, California's Point.360 only had a music director, Carlos Carrillo, which was a massive attention whore, as he always gave himself the performance of the dubbed OPs and EDs.
>>
>>148442200
i miss their microhouse music and videos
>>
>>148513971
I'm guessing that decided it was a kid's show, so they changed the OP to use it as a brief introduction to the series (they name characters and places, resume the plot, etcetera).

>Los Angeles, California's Point.360 only had a music director, Carlos Carrillo, which was a massive attention whore, as he always gave himself the performance of the dubbed OPs and EDs.
Damn, never knew that. What an asshole. Sure, it was cheaper and easier but it really ruined the songs.

>Sure, it was cheaper and easier but it really ruined the songs.
Nah, there are OPs by him that were quite decent. The Red Baron, Bt'X and Case Closed OPs are nice. Locomotion's crew specially loved the first mentioned.

I loved this channel when they broadcasted more experimental and creepy animations than anime.

Never forget that the Latin American dub changed the dialogue to make Touya's and Yukito's relationship obvious and in your face
>>
>>148526356
Do you have one example?
>>
>>148526412

They changed "Touya is my number one" for "Touya is the person I love" and "I don't want you to disappear" for “I won’t be able to be without you by my side, stay”/“won’t be able to take it/bear with it/endure it”
