Momentum carried me quite a bit. Earlier volumes were fun since I looked deeper into things than the author did and wanted to see how things like Naofumi's hypocrisy played out. Instead he completely failed to grow as a person/character and many of the other characters/narratives devolved backwards to prop up naofumi.
Spear hero seems to make up for that in spades as pre-mindbreak Naofumi keeps on finding out about himself and being horrified.

Not only do you need to obtain the ingredients for the enchantment, which are quite expensive and yet just half of the price of the enchantment; you also need to have magicians of certain specialization that can do the specific enchantment you require, who also ask for a small fortune to enchant the item.

The other problem the dwarves have is they they are practically constantly under siege by the Quagoa, which would difficult how they could obtain the resources from the wild or from trading partners who have become almost non-existent as the dwarves have lost ground to the Quagoa.

Look at historical armies of similar stage to the dwarfs, in wartime they had a much higher % of their population in the military.

Look at the second punic war - Rome and other roman cities had a population of around 800k, and their allies had a population of 1.800k on top of that, and they raised forces of around 800k.

In one battle (Canne), rome lost 7% of its population, and proptly raised another fucking army even bigger than the one they lost and kept fighting.

By the end of the war, Romes population dropped by 30-40%, over half the male population died.

I talked about the Kingdom/Empire war before actually.

Kingdom has a very primitive fighting force, relying on levies. Its logistics are incomprehensibly great, but its army is trash.

The Kingdom may be similar in terms of casualties to the romans, but their system is totally different and their ability to absorb massive casualties would be completely different, due to the system of recruitment and the states strength.

Rome had a citizen army and a very strong national spirit that you don't see again in the west until the consolidation of the European nations in the 17th century and the reforms of Gustuf Adolfus. They could rapidly raise and train armies even after heavy losses because their military system had a template that could be easily taught.

Levy system common in medieval Europe (and in the NW, the Kingdom) on the other hand can't manage such a feat, not without disastrous long term consequences. After SPLAT, the kingdom realistically wouldn't be a military power for a decade at least.
