I'm casual trash, DBZ
But I didn't know it was called anime and there was more stuff like it online until years later around the chunin exams in naruto
Naruto.
Jk it was Inuyasha.
Oreimo. I had never seen a non-Pokemon anime before, and was pretty surprised when it went the incest route.

How'd you guys find those in the first place? I'm very curious.
Bleach turned me into a streamfag which is a level up from watching toonami. Some girl in my class had Chii on a notebook and I recognized her as the mascot for whatever stream site I was using so Chobits is what made me branch out and get used to watching subtitled anime.
>>148407443
I got hooked after watching the show during the time Adult Swim was airing it on Saturdays. Loved the shit out of it. Especially the EP.
>>148405129
Inuyasha.
>>148407518
Chobits was interesting. When I never knew stream sites existed I was using Youtube for anime and DearS came up on the list.

Fuck off and kill yourself.
>>148407582
Relax man. We're just here to talk.
>>148407526
You do realize they didn't only air anime on Saturdays all the time right. Remember they had that vote to contain anime to Saturday only to make more room for other late night Adult Swim series? That was my only source of anime back then and I didn't have a way to vote to I basically got screwed over by people who wanted to watch Aqua Teen and shit.
>>148407444
You need to kill yourself.
>>148407641
Never knew that. Just watched it on Saturdays when they were gonna air new episodes.
>>148407374
Well, the same way any other person my age did,
DBZ came on cartoon network, y'know when toonami was around, me and my cousin were all over that shit. at the time I just thought they were simply cartoons, same as anything else on tv.Although, thinking back, maybe pokemon was my first anime. whichever came first
few years later Im looking up naruto AMVs back when it first came on tv and i suddenly find out the rest of it is already out in japanese. Pretty much stuck with it ever since
>>148407684
These are the kind of trash shows they dropped anime every night and contained anime for. It's because some munitions wanted to watch shows similar to this and this series in general.

So what do you think of the new season coming in 2017??
Rezero
Neon Genesis I guess? Saw sailor moon in passing before that.
Yeah I'm super old.
Robotech
>>148405129
Really fucking embarrassing to admit, but it waspic related.
Perhaps it's a good thing that the anime was utter shit, since it got me into looking at everything else, since it created a horrible thirst solely on how shit it was.
Masuzu still best girl though.
I used to only read manga, but Magi got me into seasonal anime. Watched a lot of Inu Yasha and DBZ when younger though.
Hyouka
>>148407938
I don't remember it being that bad. Kind of generic maybe, but it had a basic theme and it was competent enough at exploring it.

So /a/ is literal full of underage casual faggots

At least you got the balls to admit.

>>148407884
I remember they used to play Neon Genesis on Adult Swim. I used to stay up to watch Inuyasha and fall asleep to the amazing ending theme songs but afterwards NGE would start and I remember loving the Intro and especially the ending but not really enjoying or getting the series itself but feeling bad for the characters. That series made me feel weird as a kid.
Tired of these newfags who think they have to take issue with people starting later than they did.
Are you fitting in yet?
>>148408142
I never watched it on adult swim, never had cable, watched it in high school because friends said it was good and I knew they had taste in cinema and shit.
>>148408031
And every other TV animes production has been a disappointment?

uh oh calm down bro why u getting worked up man
a friend's dad recommended Ghost in the Shell to me
My first encounter with anime was Sailor Moon when I was 8, neighbour's daughter was watching it and I was at her place often. The first anime that actually hooked me was Dragon Ball, horribly voiced over in my east european shithole language, all my friends from school were watching it as well, I was 9 at this point.
I continued to watch random shounen anime dubbed in german on RTL 2 until 7th grade, when I grew too edgy and depressed for anime.
In 10th grade a friend gave me this bootleg DVD with Samurai Champloo and the rest is history.
I guess the show that got me to actively search for anime was Samurai Champloo, in that regard.

welcome to the nhk
I watched Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon as a kid, but I wouldn't say they got me into anything other than Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon themselves. Dragon Ball Z, Cardcaptors, Escaflowne, and Gundam Wing especially got me into wanting to stay up and watch anime at night. Inuyasha was the first anime I got way too into, and it really got me started on searching around the internet for message boards and shit. I believe Elfen Lied was the first anime I ever downloaded, and that was when I fully realized the power of being able to get subtitled anime from the internet rather than having to rely on Canadian cartoon channels.
I can't honestly say which of these got me hooked into anime. It just kind of feels that I've always been watching anime, and each "generation" of new anime I watched was an evolution of my relation to it. That isn't meant to be as terribly gay as it sounds.
and other adult swim/toonami stuff
>>148408488
Well because you like Inuyasha I'm going to tell you that's there's another series called Inuyasha the Final Act. I didn't know and nobody told me and I only watched it recently. You probably already knew but just in case.

A friend's dad? Now that's interesting.
2x2=Shinobuden (aka Ninja Nonsense) was the first anime I watched that didn't happen to be airing on Toonami or whatever.
Fun fact of the day: The seventh ending to Inuyasha is actually a cover. The original is sung by Sophie Monk in English. See.

Not a Inuyasha fag, but that ED gives me the feels. Them vibes, them visuals...
>>148409075
Watch all the Inuyasha endings. They're all amazing and I still listen to them today. I burned a cd actually of them when I was a kid so I could listen to them on my Walkman on the walk to school.
Bought DBZ Orange boxes, and saw a funimation ad for Girls Bravo. What an exciting time to be a teenager. Ended up moving from that to Girls High, because they both had "Girls" in the title. I just watched romance stuff until I got better taste.
>>148409132
I already did several months ago. Fav visuals ED1 My Will, fav song ED2 Fukai Mori.
>>148407938
I enjoyed it. The girls were cute. The ending was cute. I liked silver hair becoming deredere and childhood friend finally being honest.
>>148405129
First anime ever? Pokemon.
First anime that got me hooked as a kid? Probably DBZ, Gundam Wing, or Outlaw Star.
First anime that I watched post my "too cool for anime" teenage years that got me back into anime as an adult? Howl's Moving Castle.
>>148408804
he was a cool dad. my friends and i were sitting around talking about some ghibli film we'd recently seen and he overheard us and joined the conversation.
a while later my friend and i found his dad's huge anime and porn collections in the attic. he was more interested in the porn while i was more interested in the anime. and that's basically how our lives went after that. lol
Hm, Pokémon, CC Sakura, or some anime like that. But I got interested in this world thanks to Serial Experiments Lain
>>148409391
It's funny how most 90s kids seem to have went through the "too cool for anime" phase as well.
>>148409239
Fukai Mori seems to be slot of people's favorite. I like Every Heart.

Sailor Moon, 1998.
>>148409471
It's funny, all of my childhood friends went through that phase and made fun of me cuz i watched anime instead of playing counter strike 1.6 with them. Stopped talking to all of them.
>>148409983
If you're used to the quality and storytelling go of modern anime in modern times you probably won't enjoy it. I've watched it somewhere around three times not including reruns when I was young but I can't watch it anymore besides maybe 6-10 episodes I loved but every bodies is different. It's more of a monster of the week type anime but it does have a plot all together. The filler episodes at Kagome's house are the best in my opinion.
>>148405129
Dragonball in like 1995.
The main things I love about Inuyasha is the art style and the music and the filler episodes. They're amazing.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_eqVlxjbUpY
Rurouni Kenshin
FLCL or FMA would be my gateway. I like to think it was FLCL.
I watched Yugioh, Pokemon, Digimon like every kid, but the concept of anime didn't hit me for a few more years.
>>148410255
>>148410324
i see. you've convinced me to check out the first season at least. it seems like one of those late 90s/early 00s shows that has a lot of love put into it even if some of the narrative aspects seem outdated.
thanks for the earnest opinion. have a good night buddy
Jojo and fate/stay night UBW. My buddy showed me them when it was airing, so I watched and kept up with them on my own time. When they finished, I longed for more anime, and now I'm a weeb.
He also showed me NGE years ago, but somehow that didn't hook me despite how awesome NGE is.
>>148410508
Night.
>>148410508
Just so you know it's a long anime.
>>148405129
Gonna show my newfaggotry, but Kyousougiga. I had just recently discovered seasonal anime and decided that I'd watch it as it aired since the promo art looked cool and it's what got me hooked.
>>148406611
"Space...."
In my opinion the anime with the best rewatchability would by Lucky Star. No matter how many times I watch it the anime never seems to get old and I've unironically watched somewhere around 7-8 times some dub and some sub.
Toonami Aprils Fools 2012, but I started watching when Outlaw Star was airing.
>>148407782
Aqua Teen is great, what the fuck are you talking about?
>>148405129
"Battletech" the murikan dub.
>>148405129
Pic related. I think the first manga I read was Doraemon though.
>>148410842
Shit.
>>148410508
Ahh! If you're still there btw watch the dub like we all did! Inuyasha sounds pathetic in the Japnaese version and the dub is actually good.

see! That's his voice.

Best boy btw. He's such a man.
Tenchi.
Not the first anime I have seen, but it was the one that got me into anime in general. Still has a special place in my heart.
This.You will now hear it.
>>148405129

FLCL and pic related. Needless to say, most of the medium is nowhere near as visually inventive as it seemed.

It was tough having geeky interests back then. There was still a stigma. My friends and I talked about it in codes or not at all while at school.
Now any faggot can put on problem glasses and be "lolrandom" and call themselves a geek. Even if they do have a 95 IQ.
>>148405129
For me it was tenchi muyo on cartoon network.
>the face when my hardcore christian friend was over at my house and I was watching some tenchi muyo ep .rm I downloaded on my 33.6 kbit/s modem.
>Hey, I know what this is, this is the hentai right?
Good times.
>>148410036
You must be joking.
>>148405129
I was a kid that would watch Toonami when I was a kid. So I'd watch DBZ, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Cardcaptors and the like in the mid-late 90s. Really got into Tenchi Muyo because a friend really enjoyed it and we'd watch it together. Same thing with Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha.
