I think when you speak to him in Days he's obsessed with synthesizing which is the most light hearted that was ever ripped from him in game.

Not sure, it should be? Last I read was around when Axel was trying to take Kairi and that was a long time ago. I don't think it's really high on the priority list so a hiatus is understandable.

It's brotherly love. The reason why Sora is torn up over looking for Riku in KHII is because he knows Kairi is safe but Riku pretty much sacrificed himself so Sora and Kairi can be safe.
