This is 12 episodes of aprox 20 minutes, taking 3 minutes just to dress the character and 4 more just to go to the shogi fall its just a waste of time.

They might speed up after this first episode but I thought that dry beginning was a great way to introduce Rei. The contrast of his monotonous routine and how cheery the atmosphere gets when he is together with the sisters is really well done in the anime.
Besides, they have plenty of content to work with so I doubt this will be their permanent pace.

After watching the episode I went and decided to read the manga.

While I don't think that there will be a lot of romance drama in this series, since the focus is more on the character growth and the experiences Rei goes through as a whole, you shouldn't doubt the shenanigans this author can pull.
Anything could happen to make things go to shit, although this story does seem meant to be a more uplifting one.
