One of the major themes of the story is that nobody is special, everybody has to depend on everybody else, and that people can die without meaning. Even the armoured titan and the beast titan, which seem so invulnerable, are also vulnerable (to ordinary titans, to Levi). Even Mikasa and Levi, who seem so invulnerable, are shown to be capable of injury severe enough to have to avoid battle. But then they lost at least one to a roving titan and the Coordinate didn't even show up, so they had to switch to a more careful plan.
