The OG anime made me feel the bond within the Hawks so hard. Made me feel the brotherhood between Gutts and Griffith so much more than the manga.
Felt so hurt and betrayed when Griffith didn't even consider Gutts a friend. Felt the Hawks pain when Gutts left. Felt Griffiths pain in the dungeon.
All of that made the eclipse hurt so much more.
The manga didn't really make me feel as tight of a connection between Gutts and Griffith. And don't even get me started on the shitty ass movies. Felt NO (zero) bond between the Hawks, Gutts, Griffith.

If you focus on reading, you'll catch up to where the anime is quickly. I'd say the anime covers the middle section of Berserk.

Well, the Golden was covered in 25 episodes, so twice as many, and the conviction arc is very dense, which is why the series still feels rushed even though they skipped Lost Children.

The 97 series has aged a bit animation-wise and skips some details that are important post-Eclipse, but the core of what made the Golden Age great is still there.

Watching Berserk 2016 was like trying to read the manga on fast-forward.
