If you actually read it (assuming you did). Did you forget that Merlin himself tried to sabotage her ascension to kingship for his own mixed and denied feelings? He thought that telling her the future and her fate would make her give up and not take the sword. Merlin wasn't really aware of what he was doing, because he didn't think he could love anyone in a way humans did.
