Wildly speculating out of my ass, I think the real story is that our Ymir was born a titan, which as why everyone hated her for her existence. She was the original titan which all other titans originated. The original Krista was kind to Ymir (the apple), and somehow or another that ended up with Ymir giving up her powers and her "life" for the happiness of Krista's (Fritz's?) people. I think the old Ymir and our Ymir are the same, since the titan forms are the same, and titan forms aren't inherited. I still can't explain why Ymir was wandering around mindless for only 60 years though.
