I consider it my favorite movie, and the direction and some of the scenes were amazing. But I always felt like Eva in general could have been a bit less generic and more stylized with its character and background designs.

The karas looked pretty neat for its time.

Adolescence of Utena is pretty damn beautiful, the art direction is superb

Wings of Honneamise is up there as well, the animation quality is incredible throughout and a great watch

from the short compilation Memories, the animation in the Magnetic Rose OVA is absolutely out of control, it should be illegal to look that good

Something Makoto Shinkai probably wins for background porn

Too many movies and OVAs make me cream my pants, I just love high-budget traditional animation so god damn much
