Well, that exercise is also good for the tris but the point of that muscle group is to keep a strong spinal column and add support strength to erectors. It specifically helps you climb up surfaces. A "lat pulldown" machine is the same as "chin ups." They're just easier to adjust for weight.

I will say, the best way to get the healthy body you want is to begin without really changing your intake (well, healthier foods, more vegetables, more water is a given) and start lifting heavy weights. Lift heavier and heavier, more and more frequently. After a few months (or weeks if you're in some sort of hurry), just reduce your calorie intake. Exact same diet, just less of it. Keep reducing it until you meet the ratio you're looking for of bodyfat and muscle size. Keep it up, by the time you reach that goal...you'll find out you actually want more muscle and need to increase food intake again until getting huge is all that matters.

You are confusing fit with full of roids. To be truly fit you must be proficient at advanced bodyweight exercises like free standing handstand variations, muscle ups, etc, a good cardiovascular system, great flexibility, in addition to having decent numbers on the primary lifts.
You don't have to be some sorts of sports renaissance man to be fit. A sprinter is fit as fuck, even if he can't make a 6 minute mile and throws like a girl. So is a gymnast, holy fuck those guys are crazy. Or a cross country skier.
