It's all about how much time the missile needs to get from you to your target, You can easily calculate the offset depending on range (or time) by yourself, and that's precisely what snipers do because even though their bullets are much faster than pistol rounds, the distance they need to travel is such that if they didn't account for it, they'd never hit anything at all.

This conversation started with me saying that he almost always throws knives at relatively short distances at fast speeds hence why it doesn't arc much. Been a while since our main characters have experienced a personal tragedy.

They "fix" Casca, but she's not exactly in a healthy state of mind anymore. She's at least sane and has all her memories, but still broken and hollow version of what she used to be. But it's okay; maybe she just needs time to adjust. In the meantime, Guts resolves to go after Griffith again.
Early in the group's journey, they encounter some crazy shit, and Guts has to fight it off. Shit's real crazy, though, so he has to make use of the berserker armor. But the frustration of Casca's disappointing revival has strengthened the beast of darkness even more, to the extent that it manages to keep Schierke's astral body at bay when she tries to jump on his back. Schierke keeps trying to calm Guts down, leaving her physical body defenseless. And Guts kills her.
Realizing the situation is now hopeless, Serpico tells everyone else to run while he confronts Guts himself. Serpico knows he stands no chance, but he puts up a fight and uses the Sylph cloak to flit about and stay alive as long as possible to give the others a chance to get away. Ultimately, he gets rekt, but the otherrs do manage to find someplace safe to hide.
Maybe then Farnesse could try to tame Guts, possibly succeeding, but the group's already fucked. Not sure where to go from there, but I think that'd be a nice little tragedy to stir things up.

Your point is valid, here, but I think it plays into the exaggerated nature of him being an outright monster that he uses this stuff efficiently based on combat prowess and predictive abilities alone. It adds a nice hint of strategy to the brute-force approach.

A crossbow bolt moves extremely fast. It's lighter than a war arrow, so it has to move very fast, otherwise it would be completely useless against plate armor.
