I have a 250 GB hard disk, and more than half of it is full with music, photos and my video projects. There's about 8 gigabytes of pictures from 4chan, 20 gigabytes of movies, and the rest is anime (leaving me with 15 gigabytes free space)

Every time I'm finished watching an anime I immediately have to delete it as to free up space.

Delete your 3D shit. So your photos, movies and video projects.

You'll have more space for anime
>>
>>148188311
You could of easily bought a portable hard drive and not wasted your time + future proof your shit.
>>
>>148188509
I really can't. Yes, I could possibly upload the photos to MEGA or Google Drive or something like that, but the movies are rare (they don't have many seeders, if at all), and the video projects are for backup in case they get deleted.
>>
I got a box of server hard drives from work, I aint worried bout nothin
>>
>>148187359
I will not apologize.
>>
>>148188559
It's a computer from 2005 running on internal graphics (it's not a laptop). I'm saving up for a newer computer - it's better that way.

Anyway, even if I bought a portable HDD, the transfer speeds would be quite slow since I don't have USB 3.0.

You poor soul

Just get a external HDD, boy.
Also get WDs and finally try to get better taste so you never delete your anime, since what the fuck will you do once the anime you liked before but you deleted it like a huge retard is not even available anymore?
>>
>>148188589
There's data degradation, bit rot and humidity, very high or low temperatures fuck your data and also earth's magnetism can kill it too

All your shit might be dead from the first year
>>
So no one uploads their anime onto cloud storage or anything like that? We all old school physical hard drives?
>>
>>148188654
What are checksums and backups
>>
>>148188660

I hope none of you take that trash seriously.
>>
>>148188703
I know that but backups can die too

You can't escape from death, everything dies
>>
No anon, I save anime on my NAS.
>>
>>148187359
>He doesn't save anime
No wonder anime is dying. Not enough people saving anime these days.
>>
>>148187359
Nah I put my loliporn in a flash drive and bring them everywhere this post is a joke
>>
>>148188660
How the fuck would that work?

You'd need to download the anime when you want to watch it - why not skip the middleman and have it on your computer (or your NAS) instead? When you don't have internet what the fuck are you going to do, cloud guy?
>>
>>148188311
>I have a 250 GB hard disk
Tough shit faggot, I have a aging 37GD laptop with only 14GB free space. I can't even run anime properly if the resolution is over 600p.
>>
>>148188727
No but seriously though, digital data is 100% immortal with a bit of effort. Checksums + even one backup will keep it completely unchanged in perpetuity with extremely high probability, short of losing everything in a house fire
>>
But I have to watch Hyouka in a CoalGirls FLAC 10 bit release to truly appreciate it.
>>
I have a modest collection. Only half of it is real stuff since backups.

House fires become less of an issue if you practice good backup sense and keep an offsite backup too. Just go ask your mom if you can keep a spare computer in her basement and back up to it in the middle of the night once a month or so.

FUCK HDD FAILURES AND SSD GETTING FUCKED IN A YEAR IF UNPOWERED
>>
>>148188968
Why would I want to fuck around with running a giant-ass HDMI cable from my den to my living room AND my bedroom and hope the wireless keyboard has the range to work in several different rooms when I could just get a couple of low power systems to attach to those TVs? Your idea literally only works if you're a manbaby living in mommy's basement and keep everything you own in one room.
>>
>>148188781
Sounds like you should fix something in your life, my friend.

>>148188997
>SSD GETTING FUCKED IN A YEAR IF UNPOWERED
Yeah, shitty ones.
>>
>>148188997
Its not that bad. Checksums let you verify with near 1 probability that none of the bits in a file have changed. 2 independent backups would then let you detect the moment a bit rots (or rather, the next time you check) unless it happens to the exact same file in all 3 backups at once (or the exact same change happens in 2 of the 3). The odds of that are astronomically small. It's all in how much effort you bother to put in. Of course if we're talking about billions of years when all the computers aren't compatible with your video formats or the sun has burnt up the earth or whatever, that's a different problem.
>>
The concept of saving your data on a scale anywhere near what can be done now as well as the technology for it was probably unbelievable a couple decades ago if that, at least for most

Issues with data degradation and whatnot might not even be issues eventually, if you can keep the data you have safe and in relatively good condition until that point then proper storage might be solved
>>
>>148189058
Anon, do you even know where you are? It's a shitposting thread, you don't have to dig into the realms of our every day lives. You make it seem like 4chan's abyss is in your home, do you have too much space? Having a television on the living rooms seems like a waste since I wouldn't have that many visitors anyways. Also, why even move out when living alone is so expensive? I have a shitty 40k job and see no reason to fuck off just yet.

>>148187359
I don't

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
