I've been playing since Calamity Trigger and for some reason don't feel anything.

Maybe because the story was just so shitty to me. And Ragna being "tragic" for the sake of being tragic just felt so forced. It's as if it's written by an emo teenager.


The characters also had awkward interactions because it's a fighting game. They always have to make a reason why 2 people have to fight and it's always the same retreat and shit talking that don't amount to anything. And it's vague conversations about vague things with vague words with some added shit talking. It never felt like a coherent, compelling story, just a collection of anime tropes that I've seen in every anime/manga/VN ever. Even the comedy scenes were generic shit you see in every anime.


Some jrpgs still manage to make me feel something but for some reason Blazblue's storytelling just seems so tryhard and "desperate" to me. Making a character that just happens to have a sister who just happens to become death is really convinient and dumb. Ragna just gets shit on just for the sake of us pitying him. It worked with Guts because Guts is an asshole, does crazy shit, and has been through some real tough shit that most MCs don't (molested, cucked, friends which were all given screentime/personalities killed in front of him, trauma that comes back to haunt him, insanity, etc.) With Ragna it feels forced because it's just a character that gets shit on just for the sake of it, he's just begging for sympathy. The cringe worthy dialogue doesn't help either, the core plot itself is shit. But it is a fighting game, and for a fighting game probably has the best story.

TLDR: Rachel is a pure maiden

It's expected for him not to get a happy ending, but it seems like there's really no point to his suffering. Guts is actually an asshole though, telling a kid to kill herself right after she sees her dead father, using kids as bait for demons, kidnapping, etc. While Ragna just defends himself most of the time. And Ragna has fought armies or whatever, but those scenes weren't fleshed out enough to give them any weight or emotional connection to the viewer. The scene of Guts assassinating the kid, though simple was way more telling than anything Ragna ever did. And you can see that being kicked around by life actually changed him. As in he keeps telling Puck "weaklings disgust him"

Guts was even bothered the first time he made love because he had flashbacks to Donovan. With Ragna there's none of these, it's just "oh, bad things happened to me. I'm just gonna fight people." There's really nothing that's interesting or entertaining about him. He's the most generic action hero there is minus the edge. And Guts is in a story where fate, fundamentals of good and evil, all that is explored so his character fits in perfectly with the series. While Ragna just feels like a watered down clone begging for sympathy but in a less compelling story.

There's always a cause and effect while Ragna is pretty much just the same boring dude throughout the whole story (yes, I beat all the story mode in all the games). But like I said, compared to other fighting game stories, Blazblue is still greatest of all time.

I hate both. They're both written by hacks who take the easy and cheap route of making their bland characters tragic just for the sake of it.

While I don't think Berserk is all that amazing either, Guts character makes a whole lot more sense, given the whole "fate" thing. He's not supposed to be the strongest, he's not supposed to be the "chosen one", actually his would be rival is. Meanwhile Ragna is literally "I inherited this outfit and name from Bloodedge" (yes I know about the time shenanigans), my sister is death, my brother becomes white void, my blazblue is the villain's. Everything just seems so convenient. And none of Ragna's scene have any impact because of the extremely shitty storytelling. There way too many memorable Guts scenes but I can't say the same for Ragna. But yeah I should probably stop ranting for no reason, I actually play BB a lot. More than GG, KOF, and SF. I just think people overrate the story.

It basically said how the English cast hadn't been called back to reprise their roles and were generally kept in the dark as to whether or not they were going to be brought back or not. Aksys eventually put out two tweets confirming that BBCF would have no English dub, this was news to both the fans as well as the English voice cast. His post was basically about how he was disappointed that this news was broken through Twitter, the possible reasons for the omission of the dub track, and how much of a fan of the franchise he's become over the years working on the games

Noel's English VA also took to Twitter to give her input. Talked about how she was bummed because Noel was her first big role that put her on the map and that she had started voicing her when she was still a teenager. Really put things into perspective on how old the series was and how long the cast had been working on these characters only to have them very informally taken away from them.

I prefer the Japanese voices for the most part but the whole situation is still very shitty since the English dub wasn't half bad

Not really, he's an observer who, unlike Rachel, actually stayed out of things. It's only natural that he is one of the only people to know Ragna existed.

Thus being someone who is outside events, he's the only one who properly remembers Ragna. I'm guessing all the inference on Rachel's part diminished her status as an observer, hence why she only has fleeting memories of Ragna rather than fully remembering him.

Better than completely forgetting he exists like everyone else, but still shitty that all her attempts at helping him led to her not being able to fully remember him.

Because their relationship was never romantic in the first place. Rachel (and maaaaaaybe Jubei) was the only one who really cared about Ragna as a person. Similarly, Ragna was the only one who treated her as a human as opposed to an all-powerful vampire, an Observer, and a wielder of the Tsukuyomi System. A heartfelt hug between them was exactly what was needed in that scene.
