I liked it though, the general impression is that she can never go back to being the happy-go-lucky person she was, but she's accepted whats she's become and can move on from there.

the mangaka got sick and rushed out an ending because they didn't know if they'd live to finish it

I'd say we got the whole package, as in the end there wasn't anything about the way she is which couldn't be explained. Or was there something about her which couldn't be explained, meaning that there would have to be more reasons to the way she is in order for it to make sense?

From the very start this is one thing Natsuo very much wanted, to be the way she is without feeling bad about it and having to conform to others in order to be accepted by them. The way she dresses as a delinquent in school, as an example, is a sign of this, she wants others to accept her for who she is. This is also one reason which explains why Natsuo is jealous of Yuzuko, because she doesn't conform to anyone (she's just being herself) and doesn't feel the slighest bit bad about what she does to other people (she's ignorant about it) yet doesn’t face any consequences like Natsuo would and did. Yuzuko destroys people's pride and confidence and makes them feel inferior, something Natsuo very much can relate to doing herself and which fuels her anger towards Yuzuko, as she never liked doing it herself because she valued kindness highly and still does. Yuzuko is also the happy-go-lucky kind of person Natsuo could have become and wanted to be (another reason for her jealousy), she was very kind but still too naive and instead of gaining happiness and becoming accepted, she became the miserable, guilt-ridden person we saw in the beginning of the manga. By the end of the manga though, she was able to become a happier person and get rid of the feeling of guilt she felt towards her brother. I'm sure though that Natsuo still feels guilty to some extent about the incident with Sanae in the dojo, as Sanae was kind to her and accepted her.

This anon I think possibly got that page from AnimeBytes and so I think that the whole volume could possibly be there. I don't have access to it and can't check, I was going to make a thread on /wsr/ to try and see if it's there, but am currently just waiting in case WFS releases it.

It ended abruptly because the author kept having health problems. I don't know what specifically he was suffering from, but I think he just wanted to finish it while he still could, rather than die and have it be incomplete. It's a shame.
