Was thinking of watching myself, heard subs aren't good after the first season, is that true?

I was going to watch it but apparently most of the series only have crabsticks.

I remember hoping and praying it would get a US release, but that was back in the days when no one believed a series longer than 5 seasons would ever get picked up and distributed here, and the fansubs for it were notorious for being done by asshats so that they were unwatchable.
