Aniplex must be scratching their heads right now. They put so much "effort" into the show, at least for the names involved (writers and musicians), and yet for some reason Japan didn't receive it well. I honestly doubt the QUALITY is the main reason because there have been shows with lots of QUALITY that have sold decently or even sold well.

Kasumi's reference laden and twisty sarcasm doesn't make it any easier either. This doesn't even look like a mystery novel going by the illustrations and you only put out one of these so why the hell would you write it like this? I'm actually looking forward to the Tokyo LNs now! I marathoned it and I enjoyed it for what it is but the QUALITY is really blatant. If you don't mind that then it's a decent watch, if only for the characters and OST. The BDs may fix the absolutely horrible animation quality but after the abysmal quality of the TV version I'm not so sure.
