Do you rewatch anime?
>>
>>147621029
No, because rewatching a show would dull it's magic
>>
>>147621029
Only the ones I really like
>>
>>147621029
Who doesn't?
>>

Yes Initial D First stage, about twice a year.

Only when I watched anime on TV.
Now, I just watch on PC and I have a lot of new anime to watch, I don't need to watch them again.
>>
>>147621029
I always rewatch the BD version for the shows I really liked.

I rewatch the battle stages instead.

Yes I do. Mostly when I don't know what else to watch. Oh and K-on/Toradora every Christmas.
>>

I like to rewatch shows with friends or family
>>
I rewatch shit all the time, it's nice catching things I missed the first time.

Mostly no, there are a lot of shows I want to rewatch, it's just hard to justify doing over watching something new.

>>
>>147621490
It doesn't, because you literally know what happens in the show
>>
I rewatch my favourite shows every 3-4 years so it feels kind of fresh.
>>
>>147621584
My sister literally watched it 6 times back-to-back.
>>
>>147621029
I rewatch symphogear almost every month at this point
it's just my go to show when I've got nothing to do and I'm not bored of it yet
>>
>>147621642
If you reduce art to a mere list of events, sure, but that's not the case. It's an experience. Knowing what happens is irrelevant.
>>
>>147621490
nah. rewatching is for people who have problems comprehending or spotting things so they discover something new with every rewatch. I get it all in my first go and whenever I do rewatch things I get nothing new from it.
>>
>>147621642
If a show you're watching is ruined by knowing what happens, it's a fucking terrible show.
>>
>>147621730
>It's an experience
its dulled in that regard as well. I rewatched code geass and it felt empty. only things that kept shining were VS battles like ichigo vs ulquiorra and this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqXgGzFmQzI
>>
Very rarely.

I've seen Code Geass and Last Exile a couple of times each, but that is about it.
>>
>>147621946
the clip is a hatchet job but it should be clear which moment I mean
>>
>>147621842
I think there's more to it than just a list of things to discover. I've seen Totoro dozens of times. I could redraw the storyboards from memory. But even then, I watched it last week and was moved to tears. Because I forgot what happened? No, because it's just that fucking good.

>>147621946
Maybe because Code Geass sucks. There's plenty I've watched multiple times and the experience has never lost its magic.

>double xp weekend

>>147621842
The difference is watching something without any knowledge and watching it after you've gained the knowledge.

Stories that reveal the world layer by layer, rather than event by event, are worth revisiting when you already know all the layers.

I mean, as long as it's interesting. If you desire new content you might find it boring, yeah.

or people deal with media in different ways. When I find an new song I love it so much I play it over and over and over and over then I add it to my collection and forget about it for months. some people are like that with anime but with anime for me 1 time is enough.

nah that is when people start deluding themselves into saying its genius and everything was foreshadowed form day 1

>>
>>147622194
Well the reason they're 'deluding' themselves into calling foreshadowing 'genius' is that they found new valuable connections between distant plot elements on the second time through.
>>
>>147622701
They did not find shit, they have foreknowledge so they start seeing connections were they are not any or see some older connections as stronger. The same way when someone shows a connection its hard to unseen it , even when its bull

I can only watch one episode of Katanagatari per month, no?
>>
>>147621029
I rarely used to rewatch anime, but I've been doing it a lot more this past month or so. For most of the shows I rewatched I found myself enjoying it almost as much, if not even more, than on my first viewing.

I guess one way of knowing what shows are your absolute favorites is to see if they still hold up upon rewatching it. As earlier anons posted, if you think a show is ruined by knowing how the plot will turn out it's probably because you never enjoyed it that much in the first place. To think highly of a show just because it has some unexpected plot twist is just absurd.

With that being said, I'll definitely continue to rewatch more anime from now on. Now is a good time for it too inbetween seasons.

Probably 99% of shows I will never rewatch, but there are a few shows that I will watch every 1-2 years.

The shows I do end up watching again are typically comedy shows/shows with a lot of references in them and each time I watch them I understand more and more references that are being made which allows me to enjoy the show more after each viewing.

>>
>>147621642
I knew that Kamina was going to die before I watched Gurren Lagann, I knew Homura was a time traveler before I watched Madoka, those moments weren't ruined for me and I'll still rewatch those shows.
>>
>>147639004
Maybe you're familiar with dual watching? Basically, playing two or sometimes more videos at once, usually with the sound from all but one of them much lower. It's one way people try to keep up with a really large number of currently airing shows, basically, they have one they're most interested taking, say, 60% of their attention, and the rest spread to the other. With new material, it's pretty difficult. But I think a really good way to introduce yourself to it is if you have something you nostalgia watch like that. Maybe this Christmas, try Toradora in one window, quiet, and something new in another window at the same time. It really does create an interesting experience and I think it'll catch on if more people try it.
>>
>>147639950
I don't think it'll catch on because it's fucking stupid. If something is so uninteresting that you need to distract yourself to get through it, fucking drop it. Holy fucking shit.

I can't even read a book and listen to music at the same time - how do expect me to watch two shows at once? When I see someone using their phone while doing something else, I don't even understand how they can do it without missing something or messing up somehow.

Maybe I'm just retarded (probably am) but I'm not convinced multitasking is a real thing and not just a meme. It's basically switching between two things loads of times and fucking up both of them: should be called 'multifailing'.

How can you even keep with an anime if it's on at the same time as something else? Does that even count as watching it?
>>
>>147640275
I'm 99% sure that anon is bullshitting you, but I do generally do "more than one thing" at a time. Obviously not true multitasking, but if I'm watching a mediocre show I generally lurk irc and a few threads on /a/, when I'm actively posting on /a/ I lurk irc and listen to music, when I'm focusing on a conversation in irc I listen to music and lurk /a/, when I'm on skype or mumble I post on /a/ and irc.

When I watch something really good (right now its Monster) I shut off all the other screens and focus on it.
>>
>>147640275
It just takes practice. Try it casually, next time you're watching something new, just open two videos, one you've seen before, muted, and a new one. That way you're sort of leaning on your memory of the one you saw to help you and fill in gaps. And it's just there to sort of mix the feelings and visuals of it together with the newer media. It's like seasoning on plain food. Once you get used to how it changes the experience, you'll probably want to try it more with different stuff, and you'll get more used to it, and before long you'll be able to watch multiple new shows all at once and doing it the old way will seem like eating plain pancakes with no syrup, or something.

I've rewatched Cross Game 5 times and find out enjoyment out of it every time. I didn't like Hyouka but I gave it another try and fell in love with it.

Honestly, rewatching shows should be a must if you truly think something is objectively good. Too much bias in your first viewing, things you couldn't have noticed, things you thought were good but aren't really in hindsight.

"Losing the magic" is bullshit and you've probably only watched a low amount of anime if you actually believe this.

>>
>Always rewatch comfy slice of life shows whenever I feel down

>>
Comfyshits are always gud to rewatch.
>>
>>147640275

True multitasking is a meme. What you can do however is give yourself multiple things to attend to and focus on the one that's most interesting at that moment. A lot of times if I'm watching an anime and I can tell nothing interesting is going to happen for a while I'll do some quick browsing while passively listening like I would a podcast or radio show. Then when I hear something that catches my attention I'll go back to watching.

I've rewatched Code Geass five times. It never fails make me feel that magic I felt 9 years ago.

They can't.

If I'm watching TV, I can't do anything else at the same time. Mind you, I am one of these fags who thinks about shit like camera angles and framing and I pay attention to the animation in some shows as well and I really can't stop myself from being like that. I just feel like I've missed something even if I divert my attention for a little while.

I can listen to music while I post on /a/, though, just not when I'm properly reading, and I can have multiple threads open at once but I still don't tend to do any more than that at once.

>>147641744
I get this for TTGL, but I've only seen it 3 times.
>>
Every season of Hidamari Sketch, multiple times, never sober.
>>
>>147621029
Of course. When I watch something for the first time I'm watching it viscerally. I live inside the world and react in real time. If all goes well I've had a pleasant experience. Once all of my feelings for the show in question have dulled I will rewatch it analytically. This is when I examine the mechanics of the storytelling itself and figure out "what worked and why?" and all that jazz.
>>
I rewatched Lain because I didn't understand shit when I watched it the first time. I still didn't get it.
>>
>>147621029
yes i've rewatched initial d, samurai champloo, rurouni kenshin numerous times

>>147642156

Are people really this retarded? Or just pretending?
>>
>>147642110
There's nothing to "get"
>>
>>147642110
There's quite litterally nothing to get.
It was just a clusterfuck of pseudo intellectual nonsense and tard tier understanding of early internet and cyberpunk thrown at a wall from episode one. .
>>
Flcl ive seen a million times
Eva

I re read manga much more often. Read GTO about once every two years or so. Read Love Hina once a year prob. Probably will re-read I"s again soon as well

Usually only if someone else wants to watch something I have already seen.

Have seen Cowboy Bebop, Fruits Basket, Black Lagoon, and Hellsing numerous times. There is really just too much anime to spend time regularly rewatching
>>
>>147621029
Watching Kamen Rider Ryuki ruined the surprise of Madoka Magica. Did the entirety of Madoka really have to copy Ryuki?
>>
Sometimes I get that uncontrollable urge to watch a show with certain themes, so I go rewatch a favourite because I can't find any new shoes that satisfy the urge. I constantly rewatch:

>Eyeshield 21
>Hajime no Ippo
>GTO
>Seto no Hanayome
>Toradora
>Berserk manga

I found it surprising that I enjoyed these shows about as much as I did the first time watching them, I'll probably be watching a few of them again considering fall looks so shit.
>>
>>147621029
I rewatched brotherhood after a couple years
rewatched half of klk, but didn't finish the second time
>>
>>147643022
>Hajime no Ippo
I've rewatched this show I think 6 times. I wish they would animate more of it.
>>
>not rewatching code geass atleast once a year
>>
No

There are very few anime that benefit from a rewatch.

And I don't have time when may backlog is never ending.
>>
>>147621946
I've rewatched Code Geass two or three times and still enjoyed plenty of it. Each person has different views though.
>>
Never in my life, I rewatched anything but love and prejudice
>>
Sometimes I rewatch, but I find a lot more enjoyment when I watch a show with /a/ in most cases
Turns bad shows into fun shows
Good shows into shitstorms
That said there are some that I enjoy too much to just forget about.
Rewatch them every so often when I feel in the mood
>>
Currently rewatching jojo with some friends who have seen it and one who hasnt, pretty fun
>>
I've seen Kaiji like 9 times.
Akagi about 8.
One Outs 3 times I think.

Can't think of anything else I've rewatched.
>>
>>147621029
Only when I've pretty much forgotten most things that happen in it. Takes years, sometimes.
>>
>>147624768
This is an anime I would rewatch a few times. It doesn't rely entirely on plot twists to keep it running or hi-larious gags which feel ruined if you know whats going to happen like Nichijou.
>>
>kaiji
>9 times

stop lying
the pacing is so shit that it's impossible
>>
>>147621029
Sometimes I'll show a series to my kids after I've vetted it for them.

I re-watched FMA 2003 twice and the movie four times when I was fourteen, I remember spending a straight week binge watching it after school when I was in one of my autistic obsession phases. Now I can't really re-watch anything besides my few favorite series without getting bored once I remember what happens.
>>
>>147621946
code geass is actually one of the rare shows that gets much better upon rewatching because there is so much shit crammed into each episodes.

When I'm enjoying a show a lot, I can't help it but to get lost on the dialogue and what is happening.
I usually re-watch to check details that I didn't get, like scenery or pieces of dialogue that didn't matter at first glance

What count are you up to?
I'm at 36 that I've counted, probably around 39 truly.

I've watched every shitty reaction videos on youtube, i've listened to the dub in the background while playing Europa,i've listened to subless commentary tracks.

All this and I've yet to watch any of the cd dramas, nightmare of nunnally or Akito because I know I will hate them.

I know you'll try to defend this as "content" but it really isn't and you have no taste. But, I should expect nothing else from some who managed to sit through Code Geass 36 fucking times.

I can't watch anything else. I think I will try experimenting with speed and pitch shifts. I am always looking for that extra edge to make rewatching CG a new experience. Perhaps overlapping the sub and dub together.

If I haven't rewatched it in a while, I begin to have suicidal thoughts. If you've seen any autistic blog post about CG on /a/ it 20% likely that its from me.

This thread started with posts saying they don't rewatch shows and it's incrementally moved towards more rewatches until we reached these posts ( >>147648209, >>147644503 ) where people have claimed to have watched a show 9 or even 36 times. In 200 posts time, this thread will be like that thread's going to be like that dude that listened to that one linkin park song 90,000 times and there's going to be people claiming to have seen Keit Ai 6 gorillion times.
>>
Isnt the entire anime industry dependant on people watching anime on tv and then buying the BD to watch it again?
>>
>>147621029
To be a true anime patrician you need to watch every single show every season at 1.5x speed or under. This takes a great deal of time. Only rewatching the top 3 anime each year is acceptable for true scholars.
>>
if it has cute girls yes
cute girls never cease to make me feel good

I've been rewatching DB and DBZ but this time the Japanese version.

If I like it, I rewatch it.

Some of my rewatched series:
>Space Battleship Yamato 2199
>Hajime no Ippo
>GTO
>FMP series (i always dig watching that desert episode where his whole crew dies)
>Ouran Host Club
>Cross Game
>>
Not really, I have too many series I want to watch to be rewatching stuff.

its like being an anime collector for the sake of collecting

>>147636610
I still really enjoyed it
>>
>>147621029
Only shows I really liked and can be absolutely sure that I won't ruin them by rewatching them.

I'd rather be ignorant and believe a show I've enjoyed before was good rather than rewatch it and become a bitter fuck hating it.
>>
I always rewatch Haruhi up to Christmas so I can watch the movie with /a/.
I also like to rewatch Akagi.
