I like the new look, but for me, the "bad" CGI will always feel the most like Initial D to me. It never bothered me at all, because the visual direction of the CG and the OST, characters, and everything else in First Stage more than made up for the low polygon count.

I felt more on the edge of my seat watching the CG drift sequences in first stage than I did in any other stage, and rewatching it just reconfirms for me that it had amazing direction.
