Yeah. Captain Tsubasa was my childhood. I read the manga years later, and the art is actually good.

His panelling is actually pretty brilliant, where his characters even go across them. He does some of the best and most intense football action scenes I've ever seen.

The only problem is that his characters grew up in the sequels, AND they're standing still. The worst thing you can do to characters with long football legs is to make them stand still.

Anatomy isn't everything, especially with a manga like Captain Tsubasa. Takahashi tried restricting everyone to proper anatomy in the hollanda youth one shot, and guess what, everyone looked like midgets.

No, the anime doesn't have the players look like shrunken-headed tree people. What you're criticizing is PACING, which is par for the course for anime adaptations.

>What you're criticizing is PACING
I'm criticizing the art of the anime. It doesn't come close to Takahashi's shading or intensity. The shrunken headed tree people only became a problem in the sequels, because his characters grew.

I would keep all the deformity of the original, because that's what manga is about. It's about larger than life events. Sorry to say, but you're reading manga wrong.

Devilman wouldn't be nearly as iconic if his characters didn't look deformed.

Western comic books these days are so fucking boring, because all the artists care about is drawing perfect ovals and squares. They will never look as iconic as a classic manga scene.
>>
>>147102501
The only problem I see is their legs. They are too tall. The rest is fine.
>>
>>147116732
Exactly. When Takahashi tries to actually follow correct anatomy, the manga suffers for it.

Captain Tsubasa is a manga where the characters spend 90% of the time kicking balls. Their legs have to look as fabulous as ever.

>Is it ongoing?
Yes. Currently the series is called Rising Sun and it's being serialised in Grand Jump. (Manga for those past Seinen, due to the aging fanbase)

What is happening right now?
Olympic games. They're on to the knock outs and playing against Holland again.

>His Tsubasa world champion or something?
Japan won the Paris Tournament, World Youth, and now they're trying to conquer the Olympic games.

>Is he married?
Yeah. He got married at the end of World Youth and Sanae is currently pregnant. He's around 23 years old.

>Is there someone better than him? is he still at Barcelona? Just finished the anime.
Still in Barcelona. There's a guy who's literally doing this right now. If by anime you mean the original, watch Shin.

Then no other anime actually adapt the sequels fully from Shin onwards, so you're better off reading it, starting with World Youth and onwards.

Just to note, the Tachibana brothers an heroed themselves with their final Skylab hurricane, which is why they're not here anymore.

Basically, they couldn't do Skylab hurricanes as adults anymore so they did a final one to score a goal, took a toll on their body, then got injured for the rest of the Olympics.

That's Captain Tsubasa's way of introducing realism.

Sorimachi was dubbed as the defensive forward in Golden 23.

He's actually not a bad forward. He even scored against Vietnam, and he's still better than Kisugi and Taki. Honestly, I don't know why these two are still there. They haven't done anything relevant for a long time, yet they still keep making the top 23. Maybe they're just good enough, but we never see them actually play.
>>
>>147102501
Captain Tsubasa has actually great art, they just don't look good in there but since they're playing matches 90% of the time that's where they shine.

It's prety clear that Takahashi understands proportions. If you actually read the original series, there are a lot of moments where the characters look proportioned.

When you spend 90% of the time drawing people kicking balls, there really isn't much of a point in keeping correct anatomy. It just doesn't look as cool. 80s kids clearly understood this.

It actually popularised soccer in Japan, a country where baseball was pretty much dominant.

The J-League was formed thanks to its influence.

''In Japan, references to Captain Tsubasa in professional soccer are more common. One of the most impressive one was during the J-league, when the F.C. Tokyo roster was presented on the big screen of the stadium, even Misugi made a small appearance, dribbling an opponent. Misugi is actually a figure used for many events organized by F.C. Captain Tsubasa has its own fucking stadium, its own real team (Nankatsu). Takahashi gets VIP at Camp Nou, even its own cafe, museum exhibits, statues, new nico nico online game, new pachinko.

Captain Tsubasa is pretty much Japan's soccer icon. There is a reason why Captain Tsubasa was shown at Ryo's closing ceremony.

Even if they did, they pretty much fucked any other attempt at adapting the manga after J ended prematurely. They would have finished adapting the whole World Youth arc if they didn't bother with remaking the old episodes.
