Volume 4 is only bad because the author spent too much time on lizards, but he got much better and learned to condense new characters' time. He realized people read Overlord for Overlord, not for sacrificial characters that would get BTFO after 300pages of introduction.

Take RE ZERO as example, 9 LN "books' just to tell basically 4 story arcs in a 25 episode anime season. Overlord has 6 arcs by book 4 and a lot of mini arcs and off stories of the world that the anime skipped entirely.

Overlord was treated as another LN to anime job instead of the complete saga told over years it should have been. It isn't the first though, and it's anger inducing cause the industry only cares about flipping a fast coin, not establishing long running epic sagas or franchises.

A reason why a lot of anime are shit is cause they aren't treated with the quality, detail and time they deserve. Overlord anime falls in between rushed and an attempt was made. It was only saved cause its source content is amazing.

So, the "massive demon army" was literally just the daily summons of Demiurge's minions, which is a fraction of a fraction of the true strength of Nazarick.

Nazarick has more absurdly powered NPCs than the city has top-tier adventurers, including the fact that two of them are literally Ainz/Nabe.

Not to mention that in a one on one scenario, the absolute best that the top tier fighters can do to a powerful Nazarick entity is to chip their nail. (Albeit, it was a cool scene, ya did it brain)

So... why is Ainz so overly cautious and meticulous? It should be clear that nothing in the immediate vicinity can even come close to harming him, right?

Is the most interesting part of this post, and I agree with it for the most part. The best side characters are eased in, not forced in. Climb is shit because he's thrust in and we get a lot of him, but the Blue Rose, Dragon Loli, BS, PDL are slowly being introduced, rather than "here is new character"

The Workers revert back to the flawed system that was Shonen Lizards. Not as terrible, but still not great.

I would have like to see an Arc before the Tomb raid, where Ainz (as Momon) works with the Workers on some quest before they are sent into the tomb. Establishing them that way should make them easier to accept, and reinforces how cold Ainz is to betray them.

One thing that made me like the workers arc is that it can have a significance higher than we value it for.

Those were the best workers around, like a "dream team" of workers. And Ainz basically wiped them from all at once. Think how much impact that did on the worker's reputation in general. If anything, he strengthened the adventurer's reputation by weakening the opposition. I don't know if that ever is gonna reflect on anything, but still.

To be fair, those sound like some supplemental classes to Monk. You too need to remember that in Yggdrasil even the most basic classes hit the cap at Level 15.

Well, I can't really argue with that. I wasn't able to do so back then because I had no counter argument, the situation hasn't changed at all. I still believe that fistfighting isn't very impressive, and the natural advantages of your weapon being part of your body should naturally lead that weapons and armor will always have more raw power, like stated, they can be lost, broken, etc. But like you previosly stated, that is not true in D&D and somehow is still balanced, even if I fail to see how so.

While that is true, the Slime Monk also had the "slime" race class abilities. Monks natural habilities don't let him do that. At least as far as we know, but there's nothing stopping Monk abilities to have some kind of Kyotōryū (katanagatari) like skills.

Depends how technical you want it. Anything fictional dramatises the heck out of it a lot, but there is a lot of good stuff out there, especially regarding the last gulf war. The highest of which are Certain Death, an elf godkin and Thousand Miles Astrologer who is more of a mystery than Certain Death currently. Certain Death is a baka that doesn't even question what they tell her and has been working on solving the rubix cube puzzle for over a century. Age wise she is a young teen or teen as they call her "young".

They have magic crystals and scrolls left behind by their gods. We haven't gotten in depth but yeah, it's certainly possible but left vague by the author.
