There are many subtleties to pronunciation. Shakespearean plays have many lines that are almost perfectly modern, but in a play I bet no one says them the way a normal person would.

This is fine if you already know at a deep level what "normal" sounds like, but if you don't, it can seriously skew how you sound.

As long as you have finished TK, reading is what you should be doing to retain what you've learned during TK. I'm coming across things like 別れら and 分かれる or 想い出 and　思い出, words that use different kanji but are read the same and mean (as far as I can tell) the same thing.

The guy has a collection of transcripts. Here is an example of the transcripts for ゆゆ式, episodes 1 and 2. He has then for every episode, plus extras and the manga. Also for other series. You can use sites like this as a form of digital transcript for some anime/manga. ゆゆ式, for example, is very, very similar in its adaptation, meaning you can essentially follow the episode transcripts alongside the manga, using the scripts as a means of quickly looking up words.

Under that definition, you can talk in most formal and informal settings. The actual estimate is like 2.3k hours, with an asterix for Jap (it sits in the same category as Arabic, Korean and both Chinese). So I'd say maybe like 2.5k for that level.

The pronunciations are simple, and the grammar is very systematic and follows its own rules rather well. Speaking Japanese is extremely simple. The only difficult part of the language is learning to conjugate naturally and learning kanji.

So I finished circulating in all 2136 Jouyou kanji into Anki reviews yesterday and now I'm just getting Jinmeiyou cards. My usual study takes like an hour and involves writing practice and looking up words that relate to new cards. Is it worth continuing doing new cards with Anki, or should I go about learning Jinmeiyou some other way? When I look up Jinmeiyou cards they pretty much just list peoples names obviously, and it makes it a little hard to remember.

The important part is doing it every single day and not skipping days. It doesn't have to be down to the same hour and same minute. You're not going to be totally fucked over if you forget to do it before breakfast and have to make it up half an hour later.

I would argue that you should either pick a time of morning, day, or evening to do your reps and then do them at around that time every single day. I do my vocabulary while walking to work in the morning every day which ends up being at around 9Am, and then I do kanji later in the evening which can start at any time ranging from 7Pm to 10Pm. I like to do vocabulary and kanji at different times so I can have Japanese study at multiple times in the day instead of one huge fucking block at one time.

My internet died so I spent all weekend doing nothing but read はるまで、くるる。 It's amazing.
The humour is god-tier, genuinely some of the funnest dialogue I've ever read. The lead-in to the 春海/静夏 scene, 秋桜's attempts at ボケ, basically all of 冬音's route, there are just countless examples of absolutely hilarious scenes.
And the production values are incredibly high. I've never seen such varied and detailed use of sprites, with multiple changes in expression or little animations within every line. And of course, the art, the music, the sound effects, the voice acting, all fantastic. It's so polished and well-done, you can tell the creators poured their hearts and souls into it.
It reminds me a lot of Cross Channel, with the themes of sacrifice, despair, uncontrolled love, broken personalities, and repetition. But they differ in that while Cross Channel goes for more shock value in its plot reveals, Harukuru chooses suspense. This means you read the SoL scenes hanging on to every line of dialogue, catching onto the hints, constantly afraid of the inevitable downfall of this blissful paradise, yet still fully engulfed in the humour and the sex and the romance. It actually makes for such an enjoyable experience.
I didn't expect this at all. You read something that tops everyone's top-10 lists like Subahibi, Eustia or Island, you expect a masterpiece. You read a colourful harem moege, you expect a bit of harmless fun. Well, it certainly is fun.

when using anki for learning vocabulary, how do you know if you're doing well?

do you rely more on your ability to recall the meaning through audio or on the kanji? I started off just focusing on the audio but my retention was horrible and now that I'm using kanji, i'm unsure if I'm over relying on it. About your original problem, here's the solution (from someone who did RTK1+2 years ago and is now N1 level) :

Always read koohii comments, there are often people digging up extra information on Kanji, which will help you narrowing the meaning(s) of what you're learning. Same goes for jisho.org, check all Kanji you learn over there, for stroke orders, but also for more keywords. While you're at it, look at the words the Kanji are used for, with luck you'll find a lot of words you already heard before, or that you may already know, it'll help cementing them in your head.

Upon this, edit your cards; you're not forced to ONLY have the keyword, you can for example have it that way : Keyword (EXTRA INFO).

Keep it up, you're doing the right thing, it'll pay off.

I'll definitely start editing the keywords too, I've thought a few times how much easier it would be if the keywords were Japanese words that use the kanji written in kana, instead of the absolutely appalling keywords that heisig chose, pretty much my entire problem with the deck lies with how many of the keywords are synonyms of other keywords, downright duplicates, or have literally nothing to do with the meaning of the kanji

I understand your pain very well, this is why I'm telling you : you shouldn't stress out too much about this. For example, the card 彼 ("He"), it's fine to put : He (かれ) on the front card instead of just "He". It's much better actually. Be flexible, do things you think might be right for you.

Additionally, I do hope you're at least writing on paper at least 5 to 15 times each Kanji you're studying (it's not needed to write them more than that as long as you initially understand how they're made up). When doing your reps, I still recommend drawing the Kanji you see in the air with your finger, to be sure to cement how they're written and all. It just takes a few seconds and helps a bunch.

Don't press "Again" for RTK cards either. "Hard", "Good" or "Easy". Never "Again". If you ask why it's because as much as I think RTK is an extremely good tool if used correctly, you still shouldn't take ages to finish it, and it shouldn't be a stressful experience, because RTK doesn't exactly "teach you Japanese", if you follow me. The earlier you finish it the better it is (as long as you did it right, of course).
