It's one of the most tense episode, Angelo is thinking of killing Nero for real, the fourth man is close and pulling the strings, and yet more of the time it looks like this.

It's very hard to deliver tension when you characters look deformed.

He hasn't shown any inclinations otherwise in any situation, though. It's all well and good to look at opportunity, but his actions are his actions, and they show no other sign of motive. Anyone could want to become the don, so he's not special there.

It seems like he's given Nero special treatment for all his life. If he didn't want Nero to be the don, he could have just not done that, rather than grooming him and then offing him anyway. We can't even assume the "kill all blood relatives so I get to be don" motive because Frate existed, and back then no one knew how things would turn out with him.

I assume this will be answered by the next episode, but for now the second paragraph of my previous post is an important question to determine what he actually wants.

The only times the uncle shows up is when he's in the company of others, mostly his relatives. It's not like he's had a lot of time to show himself scheming.

I never got the impression that he went out of his way to mold Nero, just that he played the role of a nice uncle and built up a lot of trust over the years. Frate was the easiest to manipulate and possibly get rid of, Ronaldo waltzing in and doing what he did was after he had already sent the letter. Angelo happened to be useful when it came to getting rid of Nero, who is the biggest obstacle now that Vincent is close to death anyway.
