Anyone else thinking the brainwashing is way too obvious? I don't think that's going to be how they turn to despair. I think Junko will individually target each of them and target their weaknesses after killing Chiaki, just as DR2 explained it.

When they showed the despair anime to Chisa, it didn't work, so they needed to use Matsuda's ultimate neurologist techniques in addition. If it didn't work on Chisa, I don't think it would work on Class 77 either, except Mikan who was already halfway despaired up.

That's not what people are saying is bad though. The issue is that he is just stood there like usual instead of acting like this is his second game. You'd think he'd step up and take charge, constantly trying to inspire or motivate others, but instead he's the one getting shaken just like in the first game. We've seen it all before at this point.

Eh, I'd describe it as lazy and convenient for the plot really. She's been more or less the same if not more detached, and her "sacrificing" (I expect it to be another fake out anyway, so it wouldn't even matter) herself is really just a throwback to 1. It's not particularly nuanced or well done, it just shows that she has changed.

Yeah, but for the wrong reasons. Remember, we're actually supposed to be taking him seriously. He's supposed to be the thing that challenges Naegi's ideals, and thus, we're supposed to think that he has a point and is an actual serious antagonistic force. Instead, he's so edgy it's hard to take him seriously at all. He's a lot of fun, but only because he's so overdone and ridiculous it's gone from simply him being poorly written to his characterisation being so retarded it's actually entertaining. It doesn't really make the episode "great", an episode can be fun and still not be good.

I feel this episode essentially confirmed corrupt Chisa. Note how her smile had a glint before the mindhack (& the OP started) and they show her smile again on purpose after the mindhack (& before the ED started). The OP hints it at it with if you see the Zetsubou Video you will break and they do it right as Chisa is on screen, showing a hidden inner Chisa (aka despair brainwashed Chisa). However, what's the relevance of Munakata disappearing? She lived for Munakata. This implies despair has replaced Munakata as her #1 in her heart.

Other thoughts:
- Izuru helped Chisa? How true is this? Either way Izuru needs to disappear after this.
- Chiaki will be removed soon, likely next episode. How? By dying? Fleeing (with Izuru)? Put in a coma like the RoDs?
- Right now Nidai/Gundam are not present. When will they get brainwashed? Will they catch up with the rest later, or will they get brainwashed later?
- Since DR0 events are starting soon and HPA was still functioning then what happens to Juzo's knowledge on Junko? Chisa's knowledge on Junko? Chiaki's knowledge on Junko? Chiaki will be removed but Juzo/Chisa are still alive in Future. Assuming Chisa has been brainwashed that leaves Juzo's reason open for speculation.
- One stupid scene however is Mukuro using instruments to temper with Chisa's mind further. How? Her skull isn't even open, and you can't manipulate without coming in direct contact with the brain. Is it just me, or does the Chisa in episode 1 of Mirai seem kind of... muted and deadpan? Like, kinda how you'd expect someone with a minor lobotomy would act, and there's just something notably *off* about her expressions and, especially, eyes that tell the viewer that something is definitely not right with the character. Chapter 3 existed, he was BTFO by Munakata because this game isn't a class trial, that can be fought only with words. He has been feeling helpless and useless since then, which is a plot point and will most likely change next episode

The number has been off by one since the first episode- there were never more than 15 people inside the building, but the counter started at 16.

Assuming it isn't actually counting Weedman (since everyone assumed he'd actually take part rather than be locked outside the whole time), then there has been one more person inside the building the entire time, and we've just never seen them.

There are as many theories about who this extra person is as there are posters here, so take your pick. Mind you, the counter went down by one when Chisa 'died', so the veracity of it may be in doubt anyway.

Oh man I get it now. The reason Izuru is also an Ultimate Analyst is because the Board of Directors had already researched Junko's talent beforehand, possibly with Matsuda's help. In exchange they admitted her and her sister into the school. However one of the experiments they did on her brain accidentally transformed her into the despair junkie we know, possibly the despair lobotomy that she has written in the notebook.

Basically Junko is getting a generic "experiment fucked her up" backstory like some final fantasy villain.
