Not really. The Windermerians are completely fucked. They have a 30 year lifespan, but they have the life cycle of a species that lives 60 to 80 years. They don't mature any faster than the other Protoculture races, they have single births and it can be safely assumed that their pregnancy terms are of a somewhat similar length.

That sort of thing should leave their ability to keep a replacement level of population growth extremely fragile, not to mention the issues that they'd have with generational knowledge acquisition. They're dead before most humans on a research track have completed their doctorate.

A good triangle could potentially be very lopsided, but it has no business being in a story at all if it doesn't add something to either the story or the characters. Narrative isn't like real life, you cut out the unimportant bits that go nowhere.

If you get some sort of compelling character growth or emotional drama out of that characters unrequited characters feelings, that's great and worth exploring. If not, it's not worthy of time or focus.

That's the problem with the triangle in Delta. It doesn't effectively advance the plot, and I don't feel that the show does a compelling job of using it for pure character development either. It's not that the outcome needs to be uncertain, people who say that are stupid, it's that the story element needs to be used well and I think in the case of Delta it's used poorly.

Overall I think the story element is used well in Frontier, but it has problems with how it's executed. Specifically I feel like in TV Ranka's character arc as it relates to the relationship never comes to a satisfying conclusion. You know what's one of my favorite HayaFre scenes that people never mention?

Episode 16, on Freyja's birthday and she's giving her speech about having reached her 15th birthday and that it's the halfway point of her lifespan. Hayate who was walking towards her, stops smiling and gets a really sad look on his face. But then Freyja says she's so happy to share her birthday with them all and that she'll continue to sing so she has no regrets.

And that look that Hayate gives her as she's smiling and crying, it simultaneously makes my heart soar and break at the same time.

Each episode in cour 2 lacks substantial enough content to create a discussion, and the worst of it is that none of them are even entertaining.
The dull direction lately makes it seem like even the people making these episodes think they are working with crap.
What is even more baffling is that anyone could have identified the lackluster writing in the meetings before these episodes were sent to production.
