The story in a nutshell as far as I could follow went something like this: there was Fumiko first who really liked her grandma, than she died if I recall right. Her mother hated that name, so she became Mari, but deep down she hated it. Then at one point Mari was fed up (she hated her mother, even her friends were only for appearance sake and so on) with her "role" as "Mari" and wanted to break free from all the roles she had up until that point. The personafication of freedom for Mari became Komori, since he was doing whatever the fuck he wanted. That's what Mari wanted to become, so she did.
